So I'm headed into the outer banks this saturday, and and going to stop at a craft beer store they have called "chip's wine and beer". I really want to try founder's breakfast stout because they distribute in north carolina, but not in maryland where I'm from. What's the typical availability for this beer, stocked often? Or is it a rarity. I have no idea since I never see founders beer.

Its seasonal. But I still see some floating around up here in NJ

Maybe better to post in the correct regional forum for NC.

In NYC and many parts of the country, despite FBS being a desirable seasonal, there is usually a decent chance of finding it year round if you go to the right place.

Perhaps call Chip and ask him if he has any in stock?

Not rare, just seasonal. Typically comes out in the fall I believe? You may be able to find some that's been sitting on the shelf for awhile now, I know I saw some the other day at a local shop but it's pretty scarce this time of year. If you find some though I'd say go for it, with it being a stout it should be juusttt fine.

Best of luck. I've been gifted a bottle of it twice and it's fantastic.

There's usually a lot of it around for ~9 months of the year. Just had one from last October and it's drinking fine. Full bodied and smooth as ever.

Its distributed in VA as well, so you might also consider calling a few stores along your route. I have not seen it recently in NOVA.

My OBX week starts on Aug 16 and I usually stop at Chip's as I roll into town. BTW, Chip's is pretty decent. Certainly good enough that there is no need for me to cart my own beer down there.

I actually cracked a FBS the other day. poured it in my glass and as I was drinking it I noticed a big glob in the bottom of the glass. Is that normal if this beer has been sitting in my fridge too long?Kinda turned me off.Tasted fine though.

That's on the other side of the state. However, every decent beer store should have a list like those guys. That's top notch stuff right there

Founder's Breakfast Stout is great, but I believe that in Maryland, you probably already have access to Terrapin's Wake & Bake, which I think is even better than FBS.

I've seen some 2013 FBS here in Charlotte recently, so I think your chances of finding some may be good.

There was a thread a while back someone started after seeing that in their glass...not too common but from what i gathered reading the thread its harmless...something with proteins or something like that
