My corner grocery store carries some craft beer along with the usual Bud, Miller Lite, Corona, etc. They usually have SNPA, bombers of tripels, local craft, and sometimes DFH 90. Today I was shopping for some food and saw they had Founders. Breakfast Stout, Porter, IPA, and their scotch ale. I was pretty surprised. I've never tried the Breakfast Stout. For the 4-pack of FBS they had a price tag of $11.99. There were four 4 packs. Is this a good price? Should I ask them to try and keep this beer in stock? Or would this place the beer on alert for a possible price increase?

Yep, $11.99 is the norm. Just picked up a case at that price.

That's the going price for it. And you should buy it. Then buy more.

the only problem with this purchase is that once you try it, you will probably want more. I wouldn't worry about them jacking up the price on you - if you like it, and think it will help, see what they'll do about trying to keep it in stock.

Yeah 10-12 bucks in normal. If you haven't tried it, then get some! It's a great beer. What you should do after that depends on whether or not you like it

9.99 here. Buy it, it's great and it will be gone until next year, easily worth the 3 bucks a bottle price. I'd buy two.

Thanks for all the input! What's the best temperature to enjoy this beer? Can a 4-pack be consumed on a football Sunday from 1PM to the end of the 4PM games while my buds drink their Coor's Light? LOL.

I like my stouts slightly chilled I'd guess 50-55 maybe. I believe it right at 8% as a guess, so the ABV shouldn't be a problem. Just don't drink a lighter beer after an FBS your taste buds will be shot after 4.

$9.99 here in MN. Would I buy it for $11.99? That's a stupid question... yes, absolutely yes.

I was going to start a new post on it, but figured I didn't wanna flood the forum with FBS talk. Has anyone noticed any variations among bottles in this year's batch? I am not taliing about the supposed artificial taste, but I have noticed that among the 5-6 4 packs I've had this year there has been some variation. One has the strong coffee flavor of last years and another seems slightly more carbbed and had less coffee flavor. Tasted more like a mediocre oatmeal stout with barely any coffee. I did purchase them at different shops around town, but both were just off the shelf and I am assuming they were bottled close to the same time as eachother. Just curious if anyone else has experienced this? When its right, its soooo good.

    Definitely YES!
After drinking FBS, all I could think was "Must...get...KBS"
Founders Breakfast Stout was well worth the money invested in it.
Will certainly get again. I need to cellar this beer... If I can prevent myself from drinking it all first!

9.99 around these parts. Good beer. Worth it at 12 if you can't find it. Plenty out until around the end of the year then it dries up.

As for cellering it. Eh... It's still good but the coffee is what makes this beer and its better fresh I think.

If it were up to me, I'd like to age FBS in an oak barrel to add some additional vanilla/oak/bourbon tones to it, although FBS hardly needs any additional flavors.

It is by far an already complex and amazing concoction of heavenly chocolate/coffee/espresso. Besides, I don't think the beer would be able to get any additional bottle conditioning. You're right in saying "eh" to cellaring, but it would certainly be nice to keep some for a later date... Especially because it flies off the shelves where I'm at. I had to specifically ask the manager at my local packy to reserve some for me.

Funny we're talking about the cost of it too... I'm making a beer trade with a friend and I came across an IM I sent to him: "2.75 Founders Breakfast Stout". Multiply that by 4 and the total in my area (New Haven, CT - Pretty expensive state) comes to $11. I'd gladly by it again at that price.
