Can anyone give me a hand? There was a video a few years ago on the 'net that detailed the Founders "cave" that they use for their barrel aged beers. I was hoping to show it to a few co-workers but have not had any luck googleing for it. Any help would be appreciated.

I've heard mention of "the cave" before but never knew it was referencing an actual cave. I don't know why but the video wont load for me in any browser.
wow I wonder how filled up it is this year since they said that they're tripling the amount of kbs for next year.
Pretty cool idea - keeps the beer at a constant temperature, and uses the natural geology of the area that the beer is made in.
I prefer my KBS without the drywall aftertaste! The storage company isn't going to run out of space anytime soon. The place where they store these (http://naturalstorage.com/sv.htm) lists that they have 1,000,000 cubic feet of underground storage. I think the only limitation is how much Founder's puts into barrels and how much they are willing to spend on storage space! Let's hope they don't have any accidents transporting like GI did last week.
I believe they are in the old gypsum mines which were huge, so yeah, I don't think they'll run out of space. An old client of mine used to run a data center out of there...not sure if they are still there or not.
are these natural caves? it looks man made to me like a mine or something because of all the straight lines and like flat ground and what not
They are Gypsum mines that opened in the 1890's Here is the companies website http://naturalstorage.com/co.htm
yeah nice so it's not a natural formation like I thought. Still very cool though and a very good way to store beer for aging
With KBS being back out this year I thought I would bump this thread. For those that have not seen this video form 2010, it is a good watch. http://www.mlive.com/kalamabrew/index.ssf/2009/03/grand_rapids_founders_brewing.html
You have only 5 minutes after creating a post to be able to go back and edit it. I think we all know what you meant.
