I've had the fortunate opportunity to try the recent rare releases of Founders CBS this past week at two DC area bars (@ approx. 4oz pours per person). Do any of you know if there's anything in the pipeline in regard to the brewery possibly bottling CBS at any point in the near future? Or is this part of their backstage series - meaning that they won't brew again for years to come possibly?
Nothing has been said publicly about CBS, that I know of, but they are bringing back Blushing Monk which is a Backstage beer so the myth that the Backstage will never be brewed/bottled again has been debunked. Hopefully CBS will be later this year
I think he is referring to Churchkey and Rustico in Ballston. Rustico had it yesterday and it was well worth the wait.
I've learned to never say never, but being said, I think we'll see CBS releases in kegs only. Over the past few years, Founders has done a great job at making sure all of their beer is relatively accessible across their footprint. CBS is amongst the most resource intensive beers to make. There aren't a ton of those BLiS Barrels going around and the fact that they released quite a bit this year makes me think that we won't see it for awhile. Of course, Founders could always change their stance and start doing brewery only bottle releases.
Agree that this will likely be draft only and I don't think we'll see this again for awhile. Also, Founders gave employees a bottle of CBS for XMas. Awesome gesture and kinda indicates to me that this won't be bottled.
Founders needs to start selling BLiS Maple Syrup in their store. Maybe that would speed up the consumption of this product, which in turn would make more barrels available for more CBS. But I'm with @kylelenk on this. I don't think we'll see it again for a while.
They do, I bought a bottle last year, so it's been around for awhile. http://foundersbrewing.com/store/blis-bourbon-maple-syrup/
I dont believe it will be in bottles for a very long time, and I hope we dont...Would rather see on draft
Blushing Monk was the first backstage, and it is being re-released in April. CBS was the second backstage release. So there is a good chance it will show up in bottles again. I do offer a word of caution, it aged horribly. So if the bottles come back, drink it fresh, it will never taste better.
I have family who work in ops at founders and according to them, unless you manage to get one of the 600 bottles they made this year for employees you will have better luck getting bottles of the 2011. Draft only, was made as an appreciation beer, not a 'release'.
