Right. Isn’t BLiS not working with them for barrels? Founders is maple happy now. Sweet Repute, Headless Gourdsman, CBS…

I love me some CBS, but I'd be more willing to see a line of Founders Barrel Aged Imperial Stout. The base Imperial Stout is top notch material. People would clamor for that during the Holiday Season.

As the fates would have it, a delayed meeting found me way laid at a bar I rarely visit and there I found 2019 CBS on tap.

I don't really mess with Founders much anymore, can't remember the last time I had a KBS, but damn if this isn't a fine stout.

Saw another new one yesterday at Total Wine: The Cranfather (Ale aged in bourbon barrels with cranberry, cherry, and orange peel). No mention of this on their website or social media that I can find.

Makes sense to me. Maple Syrup bourbon barrels are probably not easy (or cheap) to acquire. Especially if you want to mass produce something, and I would expect a larger batch this time around because it's been gone for 4 years and the demand will be strong.

I know this is a late response but I strongly suspect that Blis couldn't keep up with the demand that Founders new(ish) overlords demanded. So he began selling them to other breweries; I've seen Transient and 2nd Shift both specify Blis barrels and compared to Founders they only needed a few, not a few hundred.

I appreciate that Transient gets them. I’m a big fan now.

Has any one seen this yet? I was shocked to find out that it was already in Ohio for more than a week. Founders says they are shipping it out today (11/9) but I know for a fact that it’s been on shelves in the Buckeye state for at least a week. I grabbed a few today

Will CBS be in this?

Founders’ Advent calendar counts down to Christmas with rare, barrel-aged beers

"The brewery’s Advent calendar has returned for its third year, this time with exclusive beers to cheers with. Packed in the calendar are 24 bottles of Founders 12-ounce beers, including eight rare barrel-aged beers and four calendar exclusives."

I was in one of my stores today for a resupply of my regular beers and I noticed a display of CBS. I don't know how long it's been there. I grabbed a 4-pack for $23.99 + t&d.

The 2019 CBS was in last year's box, so an educated guess says it will be in this year's line-up. You can monitor this thread in the GL forum for any feedback once someone reports the complete list.

The maple flavor is moderate and does not seem different from prior years when Founders used the Blis barrels. The bourbon is equally up front with the maple. There's a bit of alcohol burn which I think is modest but my wife says is strong, so that characteristic may depend on your personal taste. As the beer warms the mouthfeel becomes a little thicker, and maybe the taste is a little bit sweet too. I like the beer as it is, but I'll be curious what some aging will do to it.

I still have some 2019 left and am planning a side-by-side. Then when I wake up I'll post my recollections of it.

I’m also curious as to how it ages. It seems fairly similar to vintages of the past. Has anyone confirmed that maple barrels weren’t used? I know that the label wording certainly suggests so. I feel like if anything, this year’s might be just a touch sweeter. Honestly, not enough to really make a huge difference. Still a world class brew in my eyes and taste buds. It’s just as smooth and velvety as ever

I was planning a side by side with a 2019 I had, but that one bottle I had left had no chance of surviving on my birthday haha
