Anyone has CBS out of The bottle lately? How's it doing? I want to trade for it but not sure if it's worth it at this point.

I haven't had it but read on here from acouple solid sources that it has really fallen off (sorry, forgot the thread).

General consensus is it's a shell of it's former self, and compulsive ticking would be the only reason to trade for it. Even that is no longer a big driver as it showed up on tap in a ton of places earlier this year. I heard it was just on tap at the brewery, though according to their website it doesn't appear to be anymore.

Seems there is a lot of variation in bottles out there and I feel its due to storage conditions or being traded across the country multiple times. Long story short, there are good bottles, but you can never be sure about their history and its probably not worth what you'll have to give up. Just my 2 cents

Don't trade for it, unless the price is really cheap. That beer is not close to what it used to be....

It was terrible even two years ago! I'd strongly advise against trading for it. The bottle I opened was a green pepper bomb and there was no distinguishable maple syrup. I opened it at a bottle share with 4-5 other people, and most people didn't finish their pour and we drain-poured the last quarter of the bottle.

pm'ed you back. I got lucky when I opened my bottle last Friday. but frankly you're making a huge gamble in trading for it.

Hey Chris, hope you enjoyed it. How was it, for science? That was a perfectly cellared bottled since purchase FWIW.

I got big black licorice from it on draft a couple weeks ago, very disappointing.

I (re)acquired this about 2 months for a group of friends that "absolutely had to have it". I tell you what, knowing what it tasted like fresh (had 2015 on tap several times this year) this was still pretty good. We all really enjoyed it- were we lucky? Probably. Is there bottle variation? No doubt. But as long as you're not giving up the King's ransom, could be worth it.

CBS was one of the very best beers in a very elite field at the Firestone Invitational in June. It is sooooo harsh that they haven't bottled that shit yet.

Talked to a Founder's rep at the last CBS event, he said to expect it on draft now more frequently in past year. I'd say hold out to find it on tap. He also added they probably aren't bottling it soon. :slight_frown:

I cracked 2 2011 CBS bottles this year. Both were still holding up great and much better than the 14/15 CBS that was on tap and way thin. New stuff wasn't even close to the same quality of the old '11.

I agree, the new batch is very, very thin. It definitely doesn't have the body of an imperial stout.

It makes me sad when I still see bottles floating around from the last release. Drank one fresh (same week they hit stores) - absolutely phenomenal. Drank one about 5 months later, it had already fallen way off.

After having countless KBS/ FBS / as well, do yourself a favor and treat the entire breakfast line by Founders like IPAs. They are always at their best FRESH

So I have a bottle that has been in my cellar since it was released, what 4 - 5 years ago? I moved once, but the conditions are pretty similar - mid50s ish, dark...
Is the chances that this bottle has held up better than one that's been back and forth a few times?
