Is it not brewed anymore? I've looked on their site and around this site and on Google and see no information about it or when it's released.

I've seen some people say it's better than FBS, but where can I find it? When's its release?

You will know when it is being released next because the Internet will literally explode. So if you ever can't connect drive directly to founders!

So it's a SPECIALTY SPECIALTY release? Not even brewed once a year?

CBS was the second beer in the Founders Backstage Series. To the best of my knowledge, it was served at their brewpub from time to time and bottled only once. It may or may not ever be bottled again. You'll have to keep tabs on the Founders website and the ``Beer News'' and ``Beer Releases'' pages of this site to see if it ever gets bottled again.

Not something I think I'll ever understand...

"Yes. We have brewed one of the best beers of all-time. Will we ever make it again? Meh."

It should be a simple answer. Instead, they make it difficult.

Bottled and distributed once ever. Kegs have made their rounds in the past but do not count on ever seeing one. Founders has made no commitment to ever brew it again, the possibility is out there that you will never see it.

For what it is worth, it was good but I would still take KBS over it any day. Many stouts are better than CBS IMO.

If I were you I would drink a FBS with a shot of that BLiss bourbon maple syrup. Next best thing.

They brew it more often as a draught only beer. There have only been 2 bottlings so far: one in hand-labeled 12 ounce bottles at some point (this may have been to employees and friends only, not sure) and then the Backstage Series 750ml bottle release last October which went into distribution. As of now, Founders have not published any plans for future CBS bottle releases but a lot of people believe it is not unlikely that they will do it again.

In the meantime, watch for Founders dinners and special events at bars and other locations in your area. This will be your best chance to get some on draught unless some random bar happens to get a keg.

    Edit: Also, what kzoobrew said.

12 oz bottles were for competition, to really call that a bottling is a bit misleading.

Could be difficulty sourcing those maple syrup barrels......same problem as making more Rare - how the hell is GI going to get those barrels again?

They should follow Alesmith's lead - brownpapertickets.com. No lines, no stress.

Yeah, I've wondered about this as well. Take King Henry for example. Now that AB owns Goose, how are the AB 'bottom line' guys not like, 'dude, let's wrangle up some more of those 23yr Pappy barrels and make some SERIOUS dough'? I think you're kind of posing the same question, but in terms of one's gaining more brewing cred, or the fact that you know you can make something so frigging amazing. If you can do that, why not make more of it?

I wonder if, for brewers, the fact that they made something so legendary makes them want to keep it sort of legendary...mysterious...rare...etc. It's gotta be tough though. If I was a brewer and had done something like KH, I'd want to do small, completely secret, batches and completely at random release them on draft only to a few pubs every few years or so. Keep the legend alive

Ding, ding, ding. They can release it in small batches so people go insane. They can keep from "selling out" by not releasing it in large amounts. Even if it's not about money, why not still make it just for the people?

Does this work for their out of state distro?

I don't think PvW 23 is something that is just "available". Rare would have to go into a different type of barrel. I think it's more the 2 years of aging than it is the specific barrel.

No. You have to physically get it yourself - name matching ticket. I'm just saying these big whale releases should be done this way. It's different if it's a party like DLD. If it's JUST a bottle release - save your patrons the agonizing 10 hour line.

AB Inbev had revenue in excess of $36B in 2010. Whatever they'd make off another batch of KH would hardly be considered SERIOUS.

I agree with you on that. But a lot of the CBS problems came from distro out of state. Lots of stories of truck chasing(this was the first release i've heard of this) and other uncool happenings.
