Yes, there were a whole bunch of butt-hurt whiners who didn't get the bottle(s) they thought they were entitled to!

I for one, immediately scurried to the corner of the liquor store where I was allowed to purchase my lone bottle, yelling "My Precious!!, my precious!!" the entire time.:grinning:

Seriously, to my palate, it was the best stout I've ever had, better than KBS, much better than FBS, I did a side-by-side with all three.

I sure hope it reappears one day!

It's definitely the best Founders stout. I had 2 bottles, loved them both. BCBS seems to have erased any want for it though - not like I'd turn down a glass tho! =)

Apparently working for any bottle shop/ beer distributer in any capacity does indeed entitle you as much CBS as one can afford.(lessons learned from last October)

I've asked founders multiple times and their answer is always "you never know when we'll brew cbs again..." My guess is that they will release it again either this winter (possibly dec of jan) or next year depending how bolt cutter turns out. I also speculate that they will try their best to keep it a secret, trying to spring it on people right when it ships to distributors.

As long as we're speculating, with absolutely no evidence to back up any of what we say, I'll go ahead and speculate that they never brew it again.

I don't think they would let the cash cow that their best selling beer has generated go without a couple more runs at it. that's just me though.

It is their most hyped. But far from their cash cow.

yeah i just meant it gave them "brand equidy" or reputation. I'm not sure what their actual margin was on it. they could honestly sell if for a lot more than they do.

True - look what The Bruery gets for a lot of mediocre beers.

There's no way a low-volume under-priced beer like CBS could account for any significant amount of revenue for a brewery as big as Founders. I don't like when breweries choose not to brew an amazing beer for whatever reason, but what can you do?

You do realize that breweries often make little to no money off of their ultra limited and rare releases, right? It gets them hype and attention, but in terms of direct money made there is very little. Founders makes far more money off of Red's Rye, Porter, Dirty Bastard, Centennial, FBS, etc. than they do off of KBS and CBS.

Yes, I know that the ltd. edition, one-offs, etc aren't generally the money-makers. After all, the millions of GI 312's sold are what even allow Goose to do something like King Henry. My comment was more a tongue-in-cheek dig at AB, perhaps poorly executed. My point was that, at least in my opinion, if it were ME, keeping one-offs (esp. wildly successful one-offs) might have something to do w/the brewer wanting to keep a bit of mystery and legend about their craft.
