Along similar lines, and I apologize if this has been mentioned - I stopped keeping up with the thread, but Curmudgeon's Better Half would be much easier to trade for, OP. It is their Old Curmudgeon aged in similar Maple Bourbon Barrels. Can be polarizing to some people, but I really enjoyed it.

Under priced? Most sold for $20-30 a bomber with some at $40, I don't know that I would pay higher than that, maybe if I had never tried it, but not otherwise. I do agree though, not their cash cow, therefore seems to be less of a brewing priority. Also, there can be only so many maple bourbon barrels, probably has some bearing to how much they can produce. I wish it could be a seasonal, but have come to the reality that it won't.

yeah the higher prices are from liquor stores. Founders literally see's 0 dollars of that past their set retail price. They sell it to their distributors and their distributors sell it to retailers who do most of the gouging. Like I said before this beer I feel like is more for their Brand Rep. It get's people talking about founders and establishes them as one of the best breweries in the nation. I think they should put it out ever year to every other year but I am also excited to see what else they come up with. You never know maybe in a couple years they will have a beer that's even better than cbs!

I actually sent Founders a twitter message the other day asking them how Bolt Cutter was tasting, and just for fun I asked them if the put CBS in bottles yet. Their response was that Bolt Cutter is "getting there" and that it will be the final bottle released in the Backstage Series for 2012.

Looks like it's both an Anniversary beer and Backstage. My bad. Read an article on Beerpulse that said it was just the anniversary beer.

There are people out there that feel that breweries should price their beers high enough that it sits on the shelves rather then getting sold out in a day. That way it presents the illusion of availability.

Someday, I'll have to try that.

I started a project a while back for a homebrew - where I toasted pecan wood in the oven, added it to a jar with toasted pecans, vanilla beans, maple syrup, and a ton of Heaven Hills whiskey - then I added some of that (around 2tbsp at a time) to some Backwoods Bastard. It's both delicious and very drinkable... and I don't have to run over orphans and nuns trying to get a 4 pack of it.

haha i'm with you on that one. Founders is being so discrete about all questions regarding CBS that it's almost a given it'll be released again in 2013.

The last time (and subsequently first time) I had CBS was at their Black Party this year. I believe it was on tap for years prior as well. If there's one event that Founders has that consistently has CBS, it's seems to be their Black Party. I'd bet on it showing up next year as well.

It's basically a sweeter version of KBS. I hold them in the same delicious, delicious regard.

Try having CBS a few more times. Like KBS, there is wild variation from even within the same batch. First bottle I had was very ashy. Second had much more maple sweetness. A keg I tried in between was like drinking southern tier choklat (blech). I've managed to try it on tap a bunch more times years prior either at BA fests or on tap and they varied greatly as well.

Your attention please. Those who were not impressed with CBS and still have one in their possession, please BM me so we can work out a trade. That is all.

Considering, they sold out with a high markup before stores could even get the case off the truck I would argue that they were still underpriced.

There are other companies doing BA maple syrup. I can pick up a bunch of different ones in VT. Not sure how big they are. Maybe Blis is the only one that can provide the quantity or they are close enough for cheaper shipping.

CBS is am amazing beer. I imagine if we wait a while it will reappear on draft sporadically, however I won't hold my breath on another bottle release.

PS - anyone catch Prince this week? Holy cow.

Do any of these companies ship? If so, could you please provide a brand or even better, a link?

    Thanks.

They might be on this site: http://hungermountain.coop/ I've seen at least 3 different ones on the shelf there. I don't recall the brand names.

Just a few Ba's and my opinion, but as far as coffee stouts go, it is awesome, everyone picked it as the best of the bunch..maybe one person said it tied with a bourbon county coffee, but personally I liked it the best..ISO!
