Title pretty much says it all. I saw a four-pack of this in the store today, and noticed that the label specified that the beer was oak-aged. I didn't recall ever seeing this fact before (even the label Founders' site omits this fact, but it is in the description), and I don't remember tasting it, though I haven't had this beer in years. Has this always beer an oak-aged beer?
From Founders website: "Think classic seafaring ports, local pubs, and weathered old fishermen. This old ale is brewed with molasses and an insane focus on the malt bill, then oak-aged. The result is a strong, rich, malty delight that’s deceptively smooth and drinkable." As far as I know it has always been oak-aged.
I believe it has always been oak aged. I wish Curmudge was available year round....actually I don't because I would be broke.
Yep label got changed last year...http://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/founders-curmudgeon-old-ale-2013.62658/
I never noticed that before either. You'd think if they had just recently included that in the process they'd have mentioned it. They must have been doing it all along. Sweet!
Not sure if it's just perception, but I agree. Lots of woody characteristics in this year's. I remember last year's being a bit more molasses-heavy.
I thought or meant to post a few days ago. Definitely didn't notice the oak-aged aspect until this year.
