I'm sorry, in my initial response I thought you were referring to the King Henry that was at FoBaB this past year, and the one now in bottles. No idea what the original KH was aged in. My bad.

The Rare barrel is what makes KH so special and you think way to much of yourself.

I was told by a bartender at Founders last week that it was an amber ale aged in a blend of three types of barrels. I couldn't say for sure that Red's Rye wasn't the base beer, but I will say there was definitely no maple whatsoever when I tried it.

I tasted maple and it was succulent. Sounds like there is a lot of confusion surrounding this beer, and here is more: from a veteran bartender, I was told that it is a barleywine aged half in bourbon barrels, half in maple syrup barrels. Take it for what it's worth, but the beer was great.

Not really about the beer at this point, is it? But since you went there, our unemployment is down to 8.5%, below the national average, manufacturing is recovering, our agriculture is as vibrant as ever and, oh yeah, we have some of the best beer in the country. Toss in the lakes, the U.P., the outdoors and all that Tim Allen Pure Michigan business and I'd say we have a pretty awesome state.

But I'm sure you thought real hard about the "sell drugs" "kill old woman" thing, so good for you.

Its not that I dont believe that it said that, but I was also told by a server(after I saw them taking to a brewer) that it was a red ale brewed with galaxy hops aged in bourbon, maple bourbon, and rye whiskey barrels(I remembered the whole thing now). I am really not sure which is right, they both should be reliable sources of info, could someone from founders clear this up? I really would like to know, this is a damn fine beer

Where I lived unemployment was over 20% and I don't think you think I was serious about the selling drugs part right?

The name of the beer is all too perfect based on this thread alone. You all sound like a bunch of stoners trying to tell the same story which none of you remember when trying to explain what this beer is.

I don't know why the person who runs our Instagram account posted that it was Reds Rye aged in barrels, that is not true. It is indeed a red/amber ale aged in three different kinds of bourbon barrels. Glad to clear this up for you guys, Cheers!

My thoughts was it was based on Cheech and Chong but I was told last weekend that the reason why they named it that was because so many people call the brewing facility section asking for Dave (the owners name) in which they started responding "Dave's not here", and it just sort of stuck for the name of that beer..I'm sure it could be a mixture of the two though

Agreed, I really enjoyed the maple notes that went with the Reds Rye. Hopefully they'll bring this back sometime after they take it off the tap list.

Had some today at Founders. It has that classic Bourbon Barrel Aged flavor that Founders does better than anyone on earth.

Just another success of Founder's top notch barrel aging process. Well done, well done indeed!
