DD is my least favorite Founders beer that is brewed every year. It seems almost cloying sweet to me and it is pretty pricey when I see it (usually over $20 a 4-pack). Too many other great beers to be had for that amount of money IMO

I got a 4 pk for 18.99 here. I equated it to what i would spend at a pub. I haven't opened, yet...but looking forward to my first taste this weekend.

We just got Founders this year so this was the first time I've tried DD. I've really enjoyed all the Founders offerings I've had so far but this one really surprised me. Normally I love high gravity beers and big IPAs so I expected to love this but it wasn't balanced at all. For a supposed "triple" IPA I thought the hops would be huge. They were there but hidden behind the heat of the booze. I don't mind hot beers but I don't want it as the primary flavor.

I was thinking about buying another $20 4 pack the next day after trying one. I'll get 2 Hoptimum 4 packs instead for a much better beer at half the price.

Oh yeah! I forgot about Double Trouble. I love that stuff, severely underrated.

my palate has definitely changed since the last DD enjoying this new DD right now.still on the fence in terms of if it's worth the price though but it's really good nice flavor smooth mouth feel like the boozyness.

I'm still baffled that people are saying its sweet. I didn't know battery acid was sweet

I agree this is a factor, but if it was simple batch variation I think there should be a very large number of similar threads involving year round beers.

I stopped buying this one a couple of years ago.
I just never found it enjoyable to drink.

I was going to try to pick one of these up and try it side by side with a '13 but I guess the aging comparison might not work?

I love me some Double Trouble but I get sad because it means old man Curmudge has hung it up for the year.

I've lost my taste for most Founders offerings, not just Devil Dancer

I had a fresh one last night out of the bottle while golfing. My expectations were minimal coming into it because I've never been a big fan of this one(have even tried a 10 month aged DD and that was the worst), but I really enjoyed it. Like most have said, it is overpriced, but I've changed my mind a bit on this beer for now.

No. I'm not a fan either. It's Founders trying to satisfy extreme hop heads with a profoundly "niche" beer. To me, it's more spectacle than art.

Next month  I can't wait either, might be my favorite hop profile/flavor of any IPA.

I like DD, but I also love aggressive, hoppy, American barleywines like Stone Old Guardian. I think DD has a much more aromatic and different nose than OG (and other hoppy barleywines), and therefore earning of a different style. Cheers

At Founder tap-takeover Wednesday re-tried this. Once I saw I had rated it before, I was surprised to remember it. Can't say the same for Wednesday (after a few KBS and a Backwoods Bastard which I thoroughly enjoyed), but I liked it more Wednesday than my rating would indicate. Definitely stilll on the sweeter side, though.
