I picked up a single for ~$5 in DC at a Whole Foods. The 4pack there was running about $21. I do like this beer, but a single bottle at a time.

Got mine for $21 + tax. It's a good beer but a little too hot right off the line IMO. I'm gonna age one for a few months and another for 6 months to see if it gets any better.

I am excited to try this beer however most of the people I have spoken to have said its not worth the hype or the price.

Personally, I wouldn't drink this again if it was just $2 a bottle. I just wouldn't drink it again.

Only had it aged and wasn't crazy about it. Hesitant to try again at $6 a single here though...

Picked up two 4-packs @ $18 each recently, that will be it for the year for me. I want to try a couple fresh, and age the rest much like I'm going to do with my Double Crooked Tree (though that one was slightly less overpriced at $16/4pk).

With that said, how do these two Michigan TIPA's stack up to one another? I haven't had any of my DD yet so I wouldn't know personally.

I much prefer Double Crooked Tree - the hop profile lends itself much better to a big IPA. I've heard lots of Summit in Devil Dancer.

DCT tastes more like a "regular old" big imperial IPA to me than DD. Sour, piney, and a very astringent boozy finish at the gravity. DD tastes much juicier and the flavors seem deeper and more complex to me. I enjoy both, but for me it's Devil Dancer without a question.

24.99 for 4pack near me. I bought a couple bottles last year. Seems like it was okay, do not remember it standing out so at this high price too many other choices in DIPAs I would rather drink and will pass on more. Prefer less ABV IPA/DIPAs in summer anyways

A few years ago it was the worst beer ever made. Now its pretty good. Just not really what I want to be drinking in June.

It's not bad really. It's just not that great. I had it both fresh and aged (1+ year).

"Great" is subjective  It is more than a great beer to me and my favorite strong ale. Cheers

I think this here is my problem, too much Double Crooked Tree latel. Even though it's a double, its a monster and not a good ruler to judge a Triple against, cause it's practically a triple(Imperial) itself. When I said I expected more out of it, I was looking for something heavier than DCT. Like the Avery Maharaja draft I had that ripped my face off.

I thought it was pretty good. I've had much better for less money, but also much worse for more money. It's about $5-6 for a single around me, but for a once a year thing...what the hell. Try a bottle, you could argue that it doesn't fit the criteria of the beer style it's marketed as, or you could just possibly enjoy it at face value...a high ABV solid tasting beer.

I hope TBA is good, because Founders may not get any more money from me this year otherwise. Particularly if Backstage Series continues to be underwhelming.

Yes, this is very similar to DFH 120. I am not a big fan of either.

You mentioned "Hi-Res, Dirtwolf, or Jai Alai." I'd go with any of them any day of the week over DD.

Just picked up my 4 pack at BevMo. I get one each year because I like to drink something different. Some have compared it to onions, garlic, and even cat piss but to me it tastes a bit different every year. I got it for 18.99 which isn't too extreme for me. I like it for what it is but no I would not drink it regularly if it were a year round release. IMHO of course. And I also like the way it looks in the glass...lol

Got a 4 pack in ohio for 19.99. It was actually 23.99 most other places. It was solid and may buy singles in the future, but definitely not a GOAT. I just figured the price due to the ABUs/12%.

That's fine  I can't relate to that at all; I get a 15 of All Day and a couple 6's of Dirty Bastard at least every month, and Centennial whenever it's fresh. Their porter is one of my favorites. I love Curmudgeon (On my second case this year :stuck_out_tongue:), Double Trouble might be my favorite easy-drinking IIPA, their Imperial Stout is one of my favorite stouts, Harvest my favorite Wet Hop, Backwoods my favorite BBA beer.

And though the last few Backstage haven't been in styles I enjoy as much as Bolt Cutter and Doom, I thoroughly enjoyed Sweet Repute and the Smoked Porter, and will continue to try them when possible. Cheers

That's what I figure, too. Beating a dead horse, but it's nearly the same price as the beer I find most comparable- Stone Old Guardian (especially the double dry hopped ones). Another reason I agree with their labeling of "Triple IPA" is because the drinkability is too great, and I'm sure if it were cheap/convenient to make strongs/barleywines that drinkable, they already would be. I'd imagine beers as big as DD benefit greatly from the 30 day dry hopping; time for most heat to settle. And time is money reflected in cost, of course.
