I see it in NJ at $14.99 for a four pack. Not worth that price considering I think it is a disgusting "IPA." I will caveat that by saying I do not like 120 and I do not like generally like IPA's that are malt forward. I only bought it because despite my fear the salesman told me it was not a malt bomb. Guess I need to find a new bottle shop.

My experience with this beer consists of one bottle, and a tasting at a recent Founders release party two weeks ago.

For all the commentary about Founder's should pull it etc., the Founder's rep. running the release explained to me that Founder's brewed this beer, a "triple IPA" as a joke. As a mockery of the trajectory that IPa's have taken. Single, double, etc. I have no idea if there is truth to this explanation, but I like to think it's true coming from the horse's mouth. I also think they could just be saying that since it is absolutely horrid. Can anyone corroborate this explanation, or has anyone heard a different story behind the genesis of this beer?

That stuff is real expensive on Long Island. It's been about a year since I bought it I guess, but it was at least $24 - I'm kinda recalling closer to $27 here in Suffolk... Any LI folks able to confirm or deny?

Anyways, I'm a fan - its one of those uber-beers, probably pretty polarizing - it's like Double Bastard in that regard - I love that shit, so whatevs, but I get people not takin' to it.

I'd love Devil Dancer in a bomber!

This is me trying to do "art" with DD last year

Good luck getting a consensus verdict. Seems like it's one of those beers you either love or hate. And even though I fall in the love camp, I still probably won't buy more than a few singles here and there. I love big malty IPA's like Burton Baton, 90 min., etc. But there are just too many good, reasonably-priced alternatives for me to justify $20+ on a 4-pack.

You're not comparing apples to apples. That said, it's not worth more than $15-16 a 4-pack.

That batch a few years ago that everyone hated, that was the first Devil Dancer I had and man it was amazing. By far the dankest beer I have ever had, it really tasted like you just hit a blunt. I dont know, but I like that sort of thing. Apparently that year was a fluke and it has been very not dank since then, I passed it completely this year

Yaaa I'm beginning to realize there's rarely a consensus on here, I do appreciate your input though!

Devil Dancer is in NO WAY worth spending >$20 on. Maybe ~$10 I'd pull the trigger.

    Maybe.

I'm a little lost; the topic of the thread is "Founders Devil Dancer - Whats the Deal"? You asked if Devil Dancer is more comparable to SN Bigfoot than say, Double Crooked Tree. My ranking was how similar DD and Bigfoot are  I find Stone OG a fair amount closer, but I don't think Bigfoot is too far off. Devil Dancer seems to drink a little easier to me with its lighter body, and more citrusy flavor, but the stomach-warming aspect of 12% evens it out. I would recommend fans of Bigfoot to at least try a bottle of Devil Dancer, and I'd recommend fans of Old Guardian to buy as much as possible :stuck_out_tongue: Cheers

Was really disappointed the last few years as I think I mentioned before, almost did not buy a four pack this year but like any other beer purchase, logic left me again and I ended up with one.

I had a pour last night and was much more impressed than in years past - dank, sweet, not as oniony. Maybe not a full on +4 beer for me, but definitely not the 3 I've rated it based on last years batch.

I looked and I didn't see a link to this article on aging Devil Dancer so here it is. It's an excellent review on aging Devil Dancer and how the taste changes over 4 years of aging. This is one of the best articles I've read on aging a beer. If you're thinking of aging Devil Dancer or hesitant to even try, I suggest reading this first. Might change your mind after reading it. http://www.guysdrinkingbeer.com/founders-devil-dancer

I've never had Devil Dancer before but I recently bought a 4 pack. Some time this weekend I hope to try one just to have it fresh. Then I'll probably age the rest at least a year if not longer based on this article. See what happens after trying it.

I have a hard time dropping $20 a 4pk on Devil Dancer (Chicago prices + City & State, ends up being like $24) even though its a great, flavorful 3xIPA. My guys and I love Founders and everything they produce, but I have a hard time dropping $12-$14 on a regular everyday shelf bomber let alone something like this.

Damn you Founders!!! You and your tasty delicious treats

I've always enjoyed drinking it, just not paying for it.
Just enjoyed one that was aged one year, or thereabouts.
    Tw'as good.

Picked up in Iowa for $19.99. Never had. The way i figure it they're $5/each which is less than a bud light at most restaurants/bars so a $20 4 pack is generally always "worth it" unless its total crap... which i'll find out this weekend.
