I'm with you. I totally agree that the smell and flavor of the hops will be at their fullest when an IPA is consumed as quickly as possible. But I also agree that the hops fade so drastically in a reasonable period of time that the beer can not still be enjoyed. I still smh when I think of the guy who drainpoured Bell's Mars because it was two months old and no longer fresh.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is a seasonal release meaning multiple large batches and multiple large shipments. Think this is taking old curmudgeon shelf space? Shouldn't really be behind counters right?

Most years this is in ample supply and in fact some will probably sit far past when most BA's would want to drink it.

    Virtually everyone.

    Make sure to refrigerate too.

That said, the question isn't "do you taste the difference?" (you really should), the question is "what do you prefer (if you even have a preference)?" I suspect your socks really aren't knocked off by the hop flavor that ends up getting lost, so you understandably don't mind when it goes.

If you want to taste the difference, try with something like dirtwolf or one of the otter creek beers. Less than 1month old vs 2~3 months unrefrigerated should be enormous difference.

Would agree with this assessment. Either way, this is one of my favorite DIPAs and I hope to drink many more this summer.

no sign of it yet in Ohio.. weird since we are not too far from the MI border...
But yea, got screwed last release with a store keeping year old stock in front of fresh stuff in the cooler. Got home and was like, WTF this tastes terrible...
This is still one of my top 3 doubles though. Love DT.

I used to love double trouble but when 6 week old DIPA's hit the shelf I pass. I don't understand why Founder's brews take so long to make it to our area...we are only about an hour north of Chicago.

found some at WF today with the May 26 date. Still picked it up though. Even with 6 weeks on it I know I'll enjoy it for $2.50/bottle.

Welp, I'm sorry that I bought it. Tasted nothing like I remembered and a bit boozy and not really any of that hop taste that I remember loving in this beer. and 150 day shelf life?? no thanks.
