I wasn't at this event and therefore wasn't able to experience what the infected CBS tasted like or how sour it was, but nevertheless this response seems a bit odd to me.

If you are the sales rep for Founders, shouldn't you be very familiar with their beers/craft beer in general (since you're going to be talking beer 99% of the time with big beer fans)? And if you are, shouldn't one of the easiest things to do be to tell the difference between an infected/aged beer?

I'm sure that fans appreciate this response and your apologies for the bad experience with CBS. But given that you're already apologizing, can you honestly say that you thought the CBS was sour because of AGE and not INFECTION?

Like others have said, its an honest mistake and one that I'm sure myself or others have also made before. But I know that personally, it would be comforting to me, to know that the guy that reps Founders in NYC knows the difference between a beer that's "gone bad" and one that has been aged a while.

[NOTE: This is just a repost from earlier bc the original post's formatting got messed up making it look like it was all written by Tim.]

Tim, thanks for saying that and for the offer to the group. I must restate, that I think you were put in a tough spot as a new hire who probably doesn't have the latititude to say anything bad and you should not be blamed. I thought you were enthusiatic and a quality advocate for Founders.

The event you ran was great and everyone enjoyed themselves. The CBS was just infected, not aged. It happens. If I was around Friday I'd bring you a properly cellared bottle of CBS and show you the difference. It's crazy you even showed with CBS in the first place as it's been about a year since it was made and the event would have been great with just the other Founders offerings. This is the risk you take with aged beer and knowledgable beer lovers know this.

Seriously, if you are in any way punished, please have them contact me and I'd be happy to share the great knowledge and advocacy you shared with us and others that night that wasn't relevant to the CBS discussion.

    Cheers.

Jim - I ended up going with a few friends of mine and my guess is that at first the Founders Rep didn't know what to think after he took a sip of the CBS. Maybe this was his first time trying CBS and figured that the "different" taste was from aging. But I bet enough people either mention to him, or the waitresses (which is what our group did since she couldn't find Tim), that CBS was infected. Definitely disappointing, but we did get a free glass of FMB to make up for CBS.

I don't think the taste was as pronounced as the smell though. As CBS warmed up, the only scents i got were tons of green apple and licorice.

I was there, but early and couldn't stick around until 6:30. I was expecting the CBS to go early as the event listing said 4pm. But the delicious FMB made it well worth the trip. Hope to try CBS the next time around.

Sounds to me like the Founders salesman for the biggest City in the country doesn't know what the beers taste like that he is selling.

    I would not admit that.
