    I think we're all pretty aware of this but they still make alot of high ABV stouts at a premium price. I think the reason for including a lower ABV offering in this pack was more about accessibility. The Oatmeal stout fits alot better here than say a KBS variant would. I think the offerings were more about cohesiveness than they were about "skimping out".

    This pack sold out instantly in Kentuckiana. I can't find one at any of the stores listed as receiving it on the Founder's beer finder or I'd buy one. I'm also a guy who would buy beer in a white can that says beer in black letters if it tasted good...

    Like this;

    Oh sweet, a 5% stout! If it's good I can drink like 5 of these without getting trashed!

    Founders had legal issues selling Breakfast Stout in certain states due to the baby label for a long time. Rather than the story you are "guaranteeing" above, they kept the label. Founders even seems to have a history of exploiting any controversy (Breakfast Stout and CBS) generated by legal issues with their labels. The range brand refresh was a different story (and I personally agree that it looks unappealing).

    I think it's safer to assume that they put a 5% stout in the box because that's close to the average ABV of beer in the marketplace and it's in line with the other three beers in the box. 5% ABV is actually perfectly in the spirit of an "oatmeal stout." As an aside, "oatmeal stouts" are traditionally just a marketing gimmick.

    Welcome to the current beer marketplace. :wink:

    I really can't relate to the positivity in this thread for this particular box of beers, but your comments are now just coming across as someone either looking for something or inventing something to be mad at. Other people on BA have complained about Founders and turned their backs on them in ways that feel much more specific to actual problems with the brand.

    Yeah pretty much this. I don't know if we should expect 3 easy drinking beers paired with a huge stout or barleywine. These packs were made to sit alongside the seltzer and Twisted Tea multipacks in the grocery store.

    I'll take this over any variety packs that Sam Adams has released lately.

    At least where I am, there’s a litany of KBS variants lining the shelves. Including the new Double Oaked version they just released. Not sure they necessarily brewed the Oatmeal Stout to save money.

    Plot twist. Old Curmudgeon is not retired. Veg play is in fact Old Curmudgeon.

    The screenshot below is from this very website which shows the typical ABV range of a standard Oatmeal Stout. So I have two suggestions for you:

    1) Read the information and enlighten yourself about the characteristics of a fine Oatmeal Stout. While you’re at it, check out New Holland’s The Poet. A delicious example of the style that has been around for a long time at near 5% abv.
    2) Go fuck yourself…Johnny-Come-Lately wannabe provocateur. Your attempts at being edgy are tiresome.

    Given the current trends in the industry and specifically the composition of typical variety packs, this is a welcome and refreshing release in the market…in my very humble opinion.
