I had this for the first time and absolutely loved it. Later, I realized it tasted very similar to their porter. Just a tad tastier with more chocolate and coffee notes. Still... almost equal in taste with the the porter. Anyone else get this same flavor profile? Even the mouth feel was just about equal.

IMO the Imperial Stout is the best beer Founders brews. It could just be their porter kicked up a bit now that I think about it.

I've had one kicking around for a few weeks now. Think tonight will be the night.

    Epic, epic brew.
In my opinion, their imperial stout flies under the radar because of all their limited release stuff. (Which are awesome) but the imperial stout is top notch and pretty easily attainable.

*edit* Oh, sorry and I notice a little bit of the same characteristics as their porter. But no, it's different.

I have a bunch of this cellared and I'm curious how it will taste in a year.

I have some cellared also. Only problem is I have no idea how old it is because there are no dates on it. These are from before they printed the dates on the neck. They used a notch in the label which means nothing after 7 or 8 years.

I've been seeing FIS on the shelves here, tempted to buy it and let it age. My only reservation is that I LOVE FBS, and am thinking I'd be better off just rocking that out again in the fall... What a dilemma

Founders Imperial Stout is my favorite beer.

It is somewhat similar to their porter, but not so similar that it's hard to make a distinction.

Bought a case of it this year and I still see it everywhere. I did a side by side this year with last years FIS (aged at about 45 degrees for the year) and this years FIS. They were really similiar, because aging at such a cool temp slows the aging down. However, the aged one tasted better to me and my brother in law. It was a little smoother.

I just love this beer, its in my top 10 beers I have ever had and it is easily my number 1 non barrel aged imperial stout. I have 5 from last year and plan on doing a vertical each year with it for the next 5 years (assuming I get it every year). Really excited to see how it turns out.

My small grocer here is currently selling the entire line of Founder's beers that come in 4-packs. And the lesser abv offerings like All Day and the Porter. Just my luck!

Might have to try the BB next.

In my opinion, KBS>FIS>FBS>Porter. The Imperial Stout is so good and so readily available to me, it's been a go-to lately. I haven't gone back to the Breakfast Stout or Porter since I tried them the first time, so I can't remember how they may taste similarly, but it is possible that Founder's has that thing going on where their family of beers all has some commonalities because of how they're produced and where the ingredients are sourced.

I find that Three Floyd's stuff almost all runs together for me because there are such similarities between the different styles. The good news is that means if you like one, you are pretty likely to enjoy them all to a certain degree.

I have a hard time even putting KBS over FIS. I think FIS is that good! I fully concede to being an outlier. KBS is pretty damn tasty. I'm just not the hugest fan of coffee flavor in beer. (if it werent for the Bourbon....)

I would put FIS in a fight for top IS with Ten Fidy & Yeti.

I love this beer, just finished my last one. Too me, it tastes better with a year on it. The chocolate really seems to take over, and the mouth feel reminds me of a chocolate shake. Cheers!

FIS is right there along with Old Rasputin as two of my favorites. Not that I don't enjoy some of the coffee and chocolate flavored imperial stouts, but I prefer imperial stout flavored imperial stouts.

Just got my hand on a few Victory Storm King's. Any comparison side by side to the FIS? Thanks...
