I don't get it. Why not spread the love throughout CA??

Completely agree. I recently visited southern California over Labor Day weekend and was hoping to get some Two Hearted. I noticed the dates of March on the bottles and decided to skip it, unfortunately.

Very astute observation, beermeplz. Will the South Bay get screwed yet again on beer distribution, or was this just an innocent omission by Founders? I suspect if they are doing South Bay events, they do have a distributor lined up here, but I'm not sure who it would or might be.

Because the entire California market is huge, and moving in to both at the same time is nearly impossible for a brewer the size of Founders - they need to do things in steps.

It seems that in that in the beer world (and petroleum world too, now that I think about it), there are two distinct areas in California. It seems that at least along the coast, that big bend near Lompoc is the dividing line.

Yeah, hoping it's just an oversight...hell, they don't list contra costa or alameda either. would be pretty weird for it to just be SF and san mateo in the bay area...

Personally, I don't need any more stouts, or old ales, or wee heavy's. If I do need a 12oz bottle, what's wrong with narwhal or old rasputin? Both are $10/4 pack of that's what I'm really after.

My beer friends are excited for FBS, but I think they're largely living in the past. I'm just not excited by what they're bringing compared to local options.

Sorry, should have known you're too cool for school after your first snarky post. Personally for me (and many others) FIS surpasses both of the IRS's that you mentioned, and for the same price. Also, something tells me your "friends" probably think you're a dick.

Are you the founders rep? Not sure why you took this so personally. Three years ago I would have been excited, I think that California and general distribution has caught up and am not excited.

My friends do think I'm a dick, but the feeling is largely mutual.

I'm curious what pricing's going to be like here. I do happen to think Founders Imp Stout is better than Narwhal, but I wouldn't be surprised if Founders 4-packs are at least $1-$2 more than they are in the Midwest.

Just your general demeanor about the whole thing, that's all. If you're unexcited about it, read the title of the thread, roll your eyes, and move on. We don't need to hear about how your "three years in the future" self is so jaded, that you had to come here and tell us all about how unexcited you are.

It's a site for discussion about beer. Just because you don't like my contribution doesn't mean that it's invalid. Perhaps it's snarky, but why not explain why you're so excited about this news instead of ad hominem attacks.

I suspect you're excited because you have a lot of fond emotional memories associated with drinking Founders in the past - since your location says Michigan in your avatar, you clearly haven't been out in California for long. That's great, but it doesn't mean that their beers are objectively better than existing offerings we have plenty of access to.

And as @grilledsquid says, I highly doubt they're going to match pricing you found in the midwest, so it's likely to not even end up being an economical choice.

What makes you king here? You list Michigan as your location (hmmmm...), and you have freakin' "Schlitz" as part of your user name. Some of his opinions on beer suck, obviously, but rrryanc has been a solid contributor to Bay area beer information for years and deserves the ability to express his opinion.

I'm betting you either work for Founders, or are a Founders fan boy. Either way, you are getting into the wrong battle here. Put the car in reverse and back away slowly.

I was already gone my man, my last thoughts are my last post. I respect his opinions and hope he could do the same (though it seems he wanted to keep going). Any way not a fan boy, not a rep, just giving them a fair shake. Enjoy the Founder's (or not), either way we'll all be drinking good beer! Cheers all

I'm excited for FBS without the hassles of travel, FIS, and I'll happily buy fresh 15 packs of canned All Day. Heard good things about their porter, and my fridge can use an alternative to Black Butte to shake things up now and then. I'll definitely try Red Rye IPA, love the hoppy reds. I liked Devil Dancer on draft, would like to try it bottled. Also the rarer stuff has obvious appeal. If they can compete price-wise I think they'll do well. I don't see Centennial selling well though. Welcome to Norcal Founders, glad 2 have you here. My $0.02

Their porter is pretty damn good. Really looking forward to seeing that on shelves.

Still unsure why you've made (and continue to make) this personal. I'm actually happy that people are excited about this, hope it lives up to hype for folks. If you're ever on the peninsula grabbing a beer, let me know and I'll buy you a breakfast stout or imperial stout.
