So I have an 07 - 11 KBS collection (1 bottle each, no luck yet getting a 12' :slight_frown: ). I'll be sharing with my brother and a friend to try for the very first time for all of us. What makes more sense; drinking from 11' to 07', or vice versa? This is my first time doing this, so any advice from you experts will be surely appreciated as I'll be doing the same with an Abyss' collection. Cheers!

I would start with the freshest working to the oldest. That way you can see how flavors fall off and hopefully learn not to waste good beer like this again. To me, KBS fresh is a great beer and with anything more than a year on it just falls from grace. Good luck and I hope you guys have fun.

You've never had any KBS at all but you have a 5 year vertical? And you have a 5 year vertical but can't get the newest vintage? Pretty funny. I'm sure you could trade for a 2012 without much difficulty.

I actually traded for the 7, 8 and 9 last year, and just recently received 10 and 11. Been trying for the 12, but no luck in the trade department.
I'd be very disappointed if the 7, 8 and 9 taste crappy. Now I'm debating if I should just keep them for collection purposes.

Just did a '10, '11, '12 side-by-side with some regular tasting friends. The general consensus was '11>'10>'12.

    Tasting notes:
'10: Mellowed. Integrated. Very chocolate forward. Least amount of bourbon.
'11: Nice balance between the strengths of '10 and '12. Chocolate with present bourbon.
'12. Bourbon forward along with some dark fruits. Less chocolate character than the earlier vintages.

Heh, I also did this recently, but my order would've been '12>'11>'10. I thought the '10 was the least interesting of the three, there was hardly any bourbon or coffee flavor at all, mainly just oak and chocolate remaining. I personally loved the bourbon-forwardness of the '12, and I think it's my favorite vintage of KBS I've had, though admittedly I've only had the '11 and the '12 fresh. All that said, fresh KBS is the way to go in my opinion. This is not a beer to age.

Drink older to newer. Myself and a group of other BAs did a full 06-12 tasting last month, and everyone agreed the older vintages had fallen way off.

Don't keep them for collection purposes though - drink them, for science.
