If I see it I'll buy it, but I'm not gonna go out of my way this year. Maybe a warm spring will make me forget about barrel aged stouts.

    Areeno0: That's not nice :slight_frown:

cbeer88: Same here. I still have about 12 bottles, spread across 3 vintages. I'm pretty much done with chasing not-quite-whales. It's a good beer, and I'd love to get more, but ....

Having landed Founders CBS & Blushing Old monk among others, I hope I can land some KBS..

If not, I'd rather trade for one than run around the city trying to procure a bottle or 4..

I've heard rumors of the distribution being similar to CBS this year.. If that's the case, sigh..

Not sure where you live in MA, but I've personally never hunted down KBS. The last three years I've acquired a few bottles fairly easily. If your local liquor store has a twitter account you find out that day if they have it, and swing by after work. Now, if it's going to be like CBS, that may be a different story. I missed out on that insanity (I'm not a whale hunter, ticker....etc.) because I was in Belgium.

Supposedly my store is getting four cases. I find that hard to believe because it's a tiny little place, and here in Vermont they've only been selling Founders for a few months. Nevertheless, I'm stopping in there during my lunch break to buy as much as they'll let me buy. I've never had KBS, can't wait to try it. Good luck everyone.

It'll be gone within an hour most likely when people know it's at a store.

You mean this year or last year? Because that was not the case at multiple stores in Somerville, Cambridge, and the Northshore last year.

This year; unless some hole in the wall shop that no one really goes to gets some it'll disappear almost instantly.

I think you got very lucky. Last year was a nightmare and most stores that announced anything were out immediately. I work right next to one store that announced it while I was in a meeting and it was gone by the time I was out of the meeting. My regular stores were empty by the time I got home. I scored all of 2 bottles at one place on pure dumb luck. Also, many stores were up to $10/bottle last year.

It was nuts, an this year will surely be worse.

I stopped in at Julio's yesterday and asked about it. The guy wasn't well informed but he checked the back and said they expected it today (Thursday). Not so sure that's true, but I'm sure they'll send out a message when it gets in.

Last year I ended up with a pair of 4 packs & a single bottle, although it took a hell of a lot more effort to score that than in years past where I'd typically get 3-4 4 packs w/o much problem. Given the acceleration of the craziness around these beer releases, I suspect cbeer88 is right. I'm not sure it's going to be worth the hassle, and really at teh end of the day it's not *THAT* good to be worth all the fuss (granted tho, it is one of my favorite beers)

KBS seemed to be easier to obtain on tap last year so I think I'll just wait for that. I scored two bottles last year but really dont feel like driving all over MA this year.

I suppose it all depends on how much effort one is willing to put forth. For me, the hassle has long since eclipsed the value.

I like stores that just put everything on the shelf and have no idea what it is.

Things might have changed, but there at least was a massive disconnect between the person who was buying the supplies and the workers. The latter pretty consistently showed that they had no idea what they were dealing with, and generally displayed derision that anyone would pay so much for beer.

That said, I think their supply has dwindled - for instance I never saw FBS on their shelves this year and traditionally they'd have a lot of it (granted, that was true for a lot of places). In general I've seen fewer of the relatively rare items on their shelves so I'd imagine they had none of the true rares.

But yeah, last year was funny. I took a trip via MBTA to get one 4 pack and stopped by supreme on my way home only to be told that some dude just bought nearly the entire allotment just 15 mins prior. If I'd gone there first I could have had my pick and saved myself an hour & change.
