I wonder how many of the cases never get sold to the public?

Across the whole line of distribution from Founders? I'm sure a surprising amount.

I was thinking just in ma but now that you mention it I'd be curious to know

Out of curiousity- why not serve any fresh? Seems odd to age ALL the KBS you get...

I do. I serve the kegs fresh and age the bottles. Im not sure why really other than I started doing it in 2007 and haven't stopped. 2008 will go on the bottle list at Armsby soon.

Ah, gotcha. Wasn't thinking of the kegs.

Gotta make it back to Armsby soon!

I'm wondering what's worse, store owners/employees keeping allottments for themselves or someone wasting it away in their cellar for future sale.

How is it wasting if it gets sold eventually?

I'd absolutely say the latter .

While I'm a fan of Armsby, just to play devil's advocate-

No way to tell how well it will age, so why take the risk when it can be sold fresh and assuredly in good condition?

And, one does have to wonder how much the "cellared" bottles will cost...

Not a big fan of KBS myself, so no dog in this fight for me. Just talkin' beerz.

Though it's just my opinion, KBS is not a beer I like aged. Which is my opinion for probably 99% of the BA stouts out there. When talking about the old twist offs I wouldn't even take the chance. I've had some incredibly oxidized bottles that were undrinkable.

People will pay almost anything for a bottle of aged KBS. And they will pay even more than that if they're sitting in the abbey. Hell, I will whatever Alec writes down.

Agreed, with KBS you lose the Bourbon and it becomes rather bland once you put that much age on it in my opinion. I can see a few months to take the slight heat off but years with something like KBS or a lot of other BA things is too much.

Because they are in the business of creating unique and rare beer experiences. I know I'd like to form my own opinion on what an aged KBS tastes like and probably would head in to try it when it hits the menu.

Which is exactly why we age beer. 2008 KBS will be on the bottle list starting 4/14, for StoutFest
