Are the glasses spiegel? Those suckers are thin and light but wonderfully and expertly crafted.

I had a panther cub last night, wow was that a great beer. I wish I would have bought another one but the MF Donkey Stout was great too.

    On mobile so can't multi-quote.

    1) founders indeed sells their barrels. Anyone can buy one and they're subject to availability. Can purchase straight from the taproom/store. Would call first. I don't believe they tell you what housed it....you might wind up with a spite!

    2) other companies (third?) use founders barrels. Vandermill makes a cyser that they aged in bourbon barrels.

    3) KBS is and has always been 2nd use barrels. Dave, Mike, etc. explicity say this in interviews and press releases. All other retail barrel aged beers founders has released state if it has been a blend (Bolt Cutter, Sweet Repute)

    4) Dragon's Milk is actually all second use barrels but they come from a cluster fuck of different bourbon barrel types and are then blended together. Brett has told me this personally while standing in the barrel room. I believe it's a 90 day age if I remember correctly.

    5) I speculate that founders may be experimenting with 3rd use barrels on some of their one-offs. Maybe not though. maybe some of their lighter BA beers just don't soak up the barrel as well as KBS and BWB do.

I wouldn't say any more or less boozy. It just has a much better barrel presence and the coffee seems a bit smoother, yet still prominent. Just a very humble opinion.
Dang it! You're right... How many years has KBS been bottled? 8? This is definitely the 8th worse batch.

At least aging one or two bottles of KBS every year pays interesting dividends if affordable...Ive generally determined that phresh is best however a recent vertical indicated that in mine and others opinion the 2011 bottle was superior to the rest...cant wait to get my bottles tomorrow and hopefully a glass of the elusive BA Red's Rye...

I should be able to find myself at least a bottle this year. Last year my bottle shop CLAIMED to get a single four pack (...still not buying that) which they did a raffle for. I'd say I'm on good enough terms with the manager to score at least a single.

I haven't tried this years yet but I always come out to praise the 2011 batch, it is some kind of magic. 2012 is still my least favorite batch to date.

It's a little hot in the nose but is very smooth overall in the taste. Plenty of coffee and chocolate on the finish. Mmmmm.

Does anyone know if they are out of the new KBS glasses? Do they release a certain amount each day of KBS week or did they all sell out completely on the first day?

They had a boatload when I got mine yesterday, kept them boxed up behind the counter. $10 per plus a cool Founders sticker. Doesn't look like they'll run out before Saturday (if at all).

The glass is definitely thin compared to, say, their cursive snifter, but I like it a lot. It's like bone china...just because it's thin doesn't mean it's cheap/inexpertly made.
