I was in one of my local brewpubs today, and there was a couple, both wearing shirts from Michigan breweries. We started talking about Founders, and I was trying to remember the name Nemesis. I did a quick look up on my phone and didn't see a name that rang a bell. Well, I just looked it up, and Nemesis was the beer I was thinking of, but it shows as retired. Did it really get retired, or did it have to go through a name change? I liked that beer a lot, was hoping to get some more.
@OP The 09 and 10 were different styles; 09 a maple bb wheatwine and 10 was a barleyine I think they were calling a black barleywine. If the 09 was the one you had and enjoyed, keep a look out for the next Backstage series being released in Dec - Sweet Repute.
Founders received a cease and desist order regarding the use of the Nemesis name from another brewery that had legal precedent to it, so that name is 'retired.' As beesy noted above look for other beers that Founders may release that are similar to the two years of Nemesis that was released and you might find something similar.
I believe that the Nemesis beers were the special release beers that were the precursor to the Backstage Series beers.
The new backstage sounds a lot like nemesis 09, you'll get a chance to try something very similar in a couple months
one of my favorite from Founders, was so much easier to buy here in Chicago than KBS.....anyone know why Founders change their Medal winner Endurance ALe to All-day Ipa?
