I probably totally missed the announcement as to what has happened to Founders Nemisis, but I have not seen it since 2010. Anyone know if this will be brewed again?

I believe it was a copyright thing as far as the name goes. It more or less has been replaced by the Backstage Series.

I hope they continue this beer one way or another. I had a 2010 in this past winter and it was amazing.

Well the intent of the Nemesis series was to bottle a special beer annually that is not a part of their regular bottling line. Exit Nemesis, enter Backstage.

I agree -- Nemesis was around for only two years (I think) before the copyright issue, and both years produced a different beer. The 2009 version was my all time favorite of all beers that I've had.

Nemesis 2009 was a maple bourbon barrel aged wheatwine. Nemesis 2012 was a hop-forward black barleywine. Both were good and the ratings are fairly similar, but I think the '09 was the popular favorite.

Sometime after '10 was released, a copyright issue came up. Founders announced they were discontinuing the Nemesis series, but that they'd be recapturing its spirit with a new similar line. That line, presumably, was/is the Backstage series.

I really wouldn't mind it if they went back to 12ozs for their special beers, though. Basically doubles the available allotment, assuming stores break down the 4-packs.

difference being Nemesis sat on the shelf for at least a little while, I remember seeing it when it came out for about a week. Any backstage release is generally basically gone before it even reaches the store.

At this time Founders was also running into capacity and demand issues, it really made much more sense to drop Nemesis and use the time and resources to focus on the core line up.

I do as well, but let's be honest, the profit margin on a 25oz bottle is far greater profit-per-ounce than a 4-pack is. They would need to charge around $35 per-4pk minimum to match what they make on a 25oz, and that's being generous assuming you can find a backstage bottle priced around $17.

No kidding. I remember seeing BCBS on shelves in 2010 and passing by it because I just had it the previous week. Now, I need to get to the store the hour it comes in.

Indeed it is. I guess I got in right a the end of the "good" time. Now its almost so hard to get a hold of some stuff its not worth the effort.

I never had a problem getting nemesis, but I have never seen a backstage on the shelves. Seems like the distro is less than nemesis.

Oh yeah. The whole foods by my house used have Cantillon just sitting on the shelves.

I don't think its really a distro problem. I think its just there are more people out there looking for it now.

You probably wont see a backstage on the shelves, though there actually is some Frangelic still around, best way to get it is to find out when its coming can call a few of your favorite places and hope they are taking a list.
