At the Founders Breakfast here last week Bob Kaiser said they didn't make any CBS due to the limited barrels and them having 6 other beers using those maple barrels currently and he said one was their porter for the black party and also a black IPA. I'm just hoping the porter will be bottled but he didn't say anything about that happening or not.

Don't tell BlackDragon that. He will flip his lid.

Ok, so, this is the second or third awesome thing that they talked about at this Founders Breakfast. What else did they talk about? Did anyone take notes? TELL ME EVERYTHING NOW.

That's pretty much all I got. I didn't have a chance to talk to Bob or I would have pressed for more info.

I'm not going to waste my time getting excited about it. Founders seems to hype their special releases to generate tons of interest, then releases them in pitifully small amounts so that the majority of the people who looked forward to them get nothing. If I find it in the store, I'll probably buy it. But I'm not going to hold my breath on Founders anymore.

Welcome to the world of post 2010 craft beer.

I mean, it's called a limited release for a reason...

Not having CBS would be a disappointment. They have made more CBS recently as they had it at their 15th party and a few festivals. At Winter MBF, it definitely tasted fresher than ever. Have they ever done a stout in brandy barrels?

Just Dub Trub in brandy barrels (Looking Glass) as far as I know.

When I was up there a month ago the workers/tour guides had mentioned how they have FINALLY began to play around with more fruit so they can make various fruit beers. When I was there Rubeus, Waltermelon, Main Guy Mango...etc was on tap at the time (middle of winter). So if I was a "guessing man" I would have to guess that there will be some sort of Fruit Beer released this summer. Maybe they release a Kriek:wink: ...you know since they halted the production of Cerise then brought back Rubeus.

It was wise to drink the Bolt Cutter when it was released. A friend recently bottle-shared one he had in his cellar, and it was nowhere near what I had around the holidays. Surprising coming from a barleywine.

Definitely don't think they've quite nailed the category yet. I find most of their fruit beers to be so so so sweet (Walter, Main Guy, Midnight @ Oasis, Berry Cherry Thrilla). I know it's my opinion but feel like Darkhorse Raspberry is a great staple as it's a fruit beer that tastes more like beer.

I'm the exact opposite. Berry Cherry Thrilla knocked my socks off, but Dark Horse Raspberry had a vomity aftertaste to it. Did not like.

I cannot wait until whatever it is is finally released so I can read tons of exciting threads about how it dropped off compared to last year and how people hate founders because they didn't brew enough and it's too hard to get.

I will be VERY excited when they do Black Biscuit... problem is that was a true one-off beer. An accident in a way... kind of a spontaneous, random beer... So until the brewers can come up with a recipe that is close enough to what they remember Black Biscuit being, they don't even know when it will be botted :-(

Dave has said continuously that they want to bottle Spite... hence why they've played around with so many variations. It may not appeal to a lot of the online beer community, it is always a hit in the taproom and well-received when it is milder. The one they has in 2009 or 2010 was simply amazing... great summer beer.

Even though the Nemsis line were suppoed to be one-offs, I could totally see a spinoff recipe of the 2009 being released. That was (and still is) a phenomenal beer!! I remember walking into Founders and being able to buy as much as I wanted, so I let it sit and decided I would get a case the following week... stupid move on my part!

Come to think of it, I wouldn't be surprised to see Dumbohead Wheat return! Founders Fest Wheat is solid, as have been the other wheat beers they've released. I never got to try Dumbohead, but hear most people liked it better than Founders Fest Wheat. Let's wait and see... in the meantime get Doom while you can... fantastic beer!

Or one of the IPAs from the secret agent series, or the tropical series. I'd love to see MGP IPA!! That, or Tropical IPA. Or Crimson Dynamo.

It was pretty easy to predict the first 6 in the series, but now the releases are becoming less obvious. I think if it is barrel-aged, it will be Newaygo County Cherry... but given Michigan cherry prices in the past year, I've got my doubts. All I know is that Spite is coming. Maybe not in 750s, but it is definitely coming ;-) at some point in the not TOO distant future.

I do expect to see more of the Mountain Brown series. I'd love for Founders to have a 4-beer series release of this, but I can see why it would be difficult for them to do a small release AND satisfy people on their entire distribution footprint.

The barrel aged pepper beers were very good and very unique, it could be one of those. Probably not the habanero or serrano though as it was pretty warm.

I mix spite with a beer everytime it's on tap at Founder's and I love it, but could not see drinking it very often because of the stomach discomfort after 2 of them.
