As someone who just doesn't get into hoppy beers all that much this is finally a Back Stage release that I can get behind. Love smoked stouts so will be looking to give this a shot.

I reread all these posts a few times and still see no whining....other then the whiny posts whining about posts that they think are whining about Founders.

Declaring that the series has hit rock bottom due to a beer that hasnt even released or tried by anyone qualifies in my book.

If it is like the regular porter but smoked it will be world class. Some people are morons who only get off to rare ba shit. I just hope they don't make this one pricey like the others, Founders does have that FFF attitude of overpricing bomber bottles.

I'm glad people aren't interested, i can probably find it in stores. I'm looking forward to this, hope its not too overpoweringly smokey. i enjoyed the repute quite a bit, lots of maple syrup.

I like a good smoked porter or stout.

I guess they're not trendy enough to be cool right now. Good. More for me.

Truth. Founders never said they intended the Backstage series to create a little wet spot in the pants of every beer geek out there with every release, though somehow their purpose was misinterpreted. I am not the biggest smoked beer fan but I see huge potential here.

I'm hoping a Rauchbier makes it's way into rotation soon. That would REALLY piss off a lot of the people, here.

The only thing as certain as founders haters is kzoobrew seeing the bat signal and showing up to defend them/bells/Michigan.

Seems like this could be a solid beer notwithstanding the style. Unfortunately, the regression of this series has not been upward sloping. And people pointing that out is OK.

"Has not been upward sloping" to who? The geeks who only clamor for CBS and Black Biscuit? NOTHING will appease "those" people.. MY OPINION is every one has hit what THEY want...And while it might not please the geeks, they HAVE been darn good beers...

I would love to see Founders dip their toes into the world of lagers. A true Rauchbier is a thing of beauty, at least to me.

Smoked porters can be excellent beers, and i homebrew them often. There are a couple of bottles of AK Smoked Porter in the cellar. I will me at least buy a glass of this when it hits Palate, and only risk a small amount of dollars. That is how I tried Boltcutter, Doom, and Mango Manifico.

Seriously. I'm a big Rauchbier fan (I call them the bacon & eggs brews).

Having been to Bamberg several times, I say one should get fresh examples. Those are smokey, but not so "meaty". My take is that they taste like ham or bacon when getting old. Did I say I like Rauchbiers?

I mean, that's fine. They can high five themselves that FMB is the brown ale they wanted, bolt cutter is the ba barleywine they wanted, and so on. I get the pushback that every new release isn't going to be cbs/bb/etc., but I think a lot of people don't believe they've even been particularly good takes on the styles, when you presume the quality founders is capable of and has achieved previously. Personally, I just stopped buying after Doom. I hope that a future release changes my mind.

I would take a well-made traditional hoppy pilsener

You'd be better off buying many if the Shorts offerings of hoppy lagers or pilsners.

Had an Alpirsbacher pils last night, that satisfied. I've had a few of the short's varieties and they are hit or miss, lager is not easy to pull off.

I for one don't care for this style and won't buy it. But that doesn't mean I don't like Founders. They still make great beer regardless. This beer is from their R and D and that idea of trying new things is what made them great to begin with. Just let it be and move on fellas. Troll if you must, but some people will actually be excited about this, AND THAT IS GOOD!
