The Founders regular Porter is phenomenal. I've never had a smoked beer before so I look forward to taking down a bottle as long as the price is reasonable. If they can keep the price in the $10-$12 range for a bomber I will probably put my name in at my party store for it.

So I'm presuming that you actually sampled Mango and Sweet Repute outside of picking up a bottle to know that these releases weren't mind-changing?

I don't get all the hate for smoked porters (or rauchbier for that matter). Founders already makes an excellent porter. I will definitely pick up one of these.

Haven't tried it, but they have made some decent ones in the past.

It's just called Smoked Lager, originally batch 1000 I believe. Its on draft at the brewpub from time to time.

Not to derail the thread (if it's actually still on topic..), but after reading all these Founders threads, I feel I am one of the few who actually has liked the latest backstage series hahaha.

Doom...can see why people didn't care for this style, but I absolutely loved it.

Sweet Repute...this one boggles my mind how people don't care for this.

Personally, I think the Smoked Porter will definitely be an interesting beer to try.

I personally can't wait for this beer. I have homebrewed a smoked porter before and it was tasty. When I travel and see a smoked beer at a brewpub, I usually have a pint and get a growler. If the price point is around $10 - $12, I see three or four bottles in my future, any higher it will be one or two bottles.

So, does this mean that Founders won't be distributing any of the Backstage series beers in bottles out of state from here on out? If so, that is rather unfortunate...

I doubt it, probably on a case by case basis.

I wasn't interested in this one because smoked beers are kind of weird, but it just clicked in my head that their regular porter is one of the best beers known to man, so how bad can it be? I'll definitely try it if the price is right. I was also a fan of Sweet Repute but I can understand people not liking it. I have a Mango Magnifico that I don't have the balls to open and a Doom that I'm saving for ???? so I guess I don't have too many opinions on the backstage beers. Kinda wish CBS never existed because people just won't shut up about it. Every post on the Founders facebook page has people demanding CBS. They had a picture of bourbon barrels and one of the first and most-liked replies was "HOPEFULLY FOR MORE CBS" even though, you know, they weren't the right kind of barrels.

I gave a Sweet Repute to a friend as a late christmas present and he said it was "the best goddamn beer I've ever had in my life" so there's that I guess.

Not the most bold or innovative of the series but i have no doubt it will be good.
