“With Dissenter, we’re releasing yet another Backstage Series beer that doesn’t fit within standard beer style guidelines,” said Co-Founder and Vice President of Brand & Education Dave Engbers. “And that’s the point. It’s a celebration of the creativity of our brewing team, and we’re looking forward to sharing it with the growing circle of beer enthusiasts.

So instead of defining what the Backstage Series "should be" ourselves, why not go to the source? I think this statement says quite a bit. Who gives a damn what you think it should be, this is what it is.

    Quoted for truth.

I'm definitely on board for this beer.

I can appreciate this being a lager, rather than an ale. However, part of me asks whether the world has enough highly hopped beers. If this came in 6packs, I might grab a single 12 oz bottle. If I liked it, I might buy more. As a backstage pass though, .... Sigh.

I think the hard part is looking at past releases...realistically what else can they do? You have to try new styles and to be honest at some point the barrel aged hype will die down. I know that's what people here want but keep in mind Founders is growing...exponentially and they want to reach more and more of the average beer drinker.

Though, its hard to follow up some great beers like CBS, better half and doom (imo anyway) etc. People have high expectations now and you cant appease them without re-releasing some of the older favorites...which I don't see why thats a problem. Think about all the new craft beer drinkers that are now on scene since CBS and others came out? Think about all the people that will never know how great those beers were. It's a shame really. Such a great concept for a beer like CBS and no one will ever taste a fresh batch again. Not complaining...just telling you what I think. 7 Monks taproom up in Traverse City had some bottles they were pouring during their Founders tap takeover...only wish I could have made it up there.

In the regular Backstage Pass Prediction Thread, there are generally dozens of good suggestions. The idea that Founders has nothing left to do is absurd. At the brewpub, they generally have something unique on tap all the time. These are also beers most people have not had. I don't think the expectation is that everything should be barrel aged, but it should be something unique. This is dressing up a plain girl and telling your friends she is hot.

Not sure if you understood that you said pretty much what I did. Like I said in the first paragraph you have to try new styles. I never said anything about founders not having anything left to do. I'm saying other people feel like there's nothing else to do...when there is.

That's all. I'm definitely going to get a bottle of this.

I thought I was agreeing with you, but maybe it didn't come off that way.

Since I missed out, are there any smoked porters left on the shelves in SW Michigan. If not, still ISO.

I don't disagree there. Tell me about your favorite Imperial India Pale Lager and which IIPL did you like least? I'd like to try more of this style but I haven't really seen it distributed before. It sounds like you've probably had several, so which one's should I look for?

Fwiw, these may not all be classified as imperials. Not sure where you are in Illinois, but New Glarus Totally naked just came out. Mmmkay from Shorts may still be around in Michigan. The Sam Adams is decent. Not I would tell you to go out of your way for any of them.

Any of the Jack's Abby (I)IPLs ... as well as Short's MMMKay and Beard of Zeus. Of course you'd have to trade for them.
