I'm relatively new to the craft beer scene. I have only been going to brewpubs and beer bars since late 2010. But I thought that out of market beers weren't allowed to be served, sold, etc. I'm going to go as soon as I can, but I never thought I'd see Founders on tap in So Cal. http://www.encinitasalehouse.com/BeerMenu.html
Yeah the Founders guys brought a number of kegs during CBC week (they were granted a temporary license), so they've been on and off tap at a few SD locations ever since then. [Edit: tree'd!]
That menu was last updated a week ago; you may want to call them to see if any of that is still on tap. There was a thread on Founders in San Diego back in June. I cannot believe that Encinitas Ale house held kegs from then, but who knows: http://beeradvocate.com/community/threads/founders-san-diego.24541/
It has been on tap there after Beer Week. I wish Founders could get distribution out here more often.
I was going to mention, there is a bottle shop in LA that always has Founders and Bells bottles. I asked the beer manager how that was possible and he told me they had special arrangements with each of those breweries. I didn't buy his story, but I do buy the beer!
They always seem to have some Founders on tap. Regardless of how recent a festival has been. I doubt they're sitting on barrels. They're getting it from somewhere. Never had them produce contraband bottles yet though.
Off topic, but kind of on topic: PP Carlsbad has Three Floyd's Gumballhead on tap. Not sure why... But I don't question it.
