Dirt Wolf gets more love than it deserves, so does Double Trouble so that is a wash there. Either way you bring up one contradicting example, too small of a sample size to form a legitimate argument. There are plenty of similarly priced 4/6 packs on the market, this goes for all of Founders releases. Simply because there are definitely better values out there, this does not negate the fact that Founders prices fall in line with todays market.

Founders prices their beer reasonably. While I do agree that the backstage beers are overpriced, every other beer that they put out is very fair priced according to the market. There are so many breweries priced higher for a lesser quality, especially those that bottle mostly/only in bombers. You should just be happy that great beers like backwoods, kbs, breakfast stout, and imperial stout are available in 12oz, not bombers. Many other breweries would put something like backwood or kbs in bombers for $20(current 4-pack price) plus, and people would still line up around the block.

I do understand that some are upset because they have raised some of their prices a bit, but with Craft in such high demand, prices are bound to go up. If you don't like the prices, don't buy the beer!

Did someone seriously compare homebrew costs to the operations of one of the most recognizable and sought after breweries in the country? Lol.

Doesn't seem that way since you cherry-picked a small portion of it to criticize. The entire context does matter.

This is a large part of the puzzle, but another piece is time lost for bottling. I know that due to the size of the bombers that when they bottle them no cans or 12 oz bottles are bottled on that day.

    So if you factor in:
    larger bottles
    specialized ingredients
a cost captured from downtime from brewing other beers
a cost captured from downtime on bottling/canning line
    premium for specialty release

I think Founder's is within a decent ballpark for the pricing they have on their Backstage beers.

I'm not implying that someone who buys a beer you don't want or think is too expensive is a sucker. Yes if the beer is too old or way overpriced then maybe they are but the ability to buy what you want based upon what you like and think is fair is an important part of our economy. The other part about buying crappy beer so they can brew better beer in the future is missing the point. Hopefully a brewery releasing a specialty beer isn't releasing a bad one just to make money on it. My argument is that sometimes specialty beers can help a breweries bottom line, lets not forget that this is actually a business and they need to live. Sometimes we seem to only care about us, the end of the line of the beer and forget about everyone it takes to get the beer to us the consumer.

And if you think a post is too long and you didn't bother reading it, maybe it isn't fair to judge or criticize.

Or you could buy Arcadia's B-Craft Black. It's year round, cheaper, and is heavier on the dark malts, which is why I like blacks anyways.

Founders is not selling the beers to distro for that much, really its the stores marking it up which founders seems to be allowing with their msrps. Ill jsut be over here guzzling founders porter.

"Special" meaning the places where $$$ lives & those consumers in the market, in those areas that buy these. There are certain grocery chains in my area that depending on the neighborhood they will have a better beer selection & in some stores growler fill stations.

I wish Founders pricing was closer to what it is in Michigan here in Ohio. All year round 6pks are $10.99, FBS, Rubaeus and red rye are $11.99 /4pk, FIS and Dark Penance $13.99 and Backwoods is around $14-16. I'd buy a lot more FBS if I could get it for $8.50-$9.
