Interesting idea, but pretty sure they said this had something to do with their coding system for their barrel program.

i agree, i just find it ineresting that brewers are opting for this style over more popular ones. For instance i noticed that Other Half's doug and Maine Brewing's Beer 3, both black IPA's, both moved a lot slower then other beers from those breweries. So i find it interesting that lately i'm seeing more of these type of beers not less.

Yeah, but the guy was in Michigan and it popped up all over the place here over the last year. Not comparable to the situation in Oregon.

I guess I do because I never saw/heard of it in metro Detroit. I will make the 2.5 hour trek next time though its being poured at the brewery. Shit - I showed up 10 minutes early at the MI Beer Growler Company when they tapped KBS and I got squat - I've had my fair share of KBS - just haven't found CBS yet.

Picked up a bottle and am excited to give it a try. Any other sightings? No reviews yet. I'm planning to hit this one on Thanksgiving day.

Really? They just posted 2 hours ago that it was on the bottling line today, and you've already got it in Virginia?

Surprisingly, yes. This beer wasn't on my radar yet, and I figured I lucked into the right place at the right time; the case had just been delivered. Central Virginia is my area. Paid $15.99 and figured I wouldn't waffle because it would likely be gone quickly.

Yeah, I think we're gonna need some more details. You grabbed this beer?

That's a 12 hour drive. They must have flown a case in to your local store.

sounds like a certain distributor or store didn't get the memo about holding this until a certain date...

Well, I'm sure they do multiple bottlings of the beer, given the size of their distribution footprint.

It's amusing though, because Founders (and I'm sure many other brewers who are large enough and have a significant social media presence) likely puts pictures and status updates around their bottling as the release date approaches to help build excitement. It gives the impression that the process of brewing, bottling and shipping the beer is a single, linear progression, when in reality it is multi-pronged and often involves delivering product to distributors well before the release date to ensure it will be in market at that release date.

But then when a distributor or retailer goofs and puts it out early, it can throw a wrench in the social media plan, because it looks like the bottles are being sold before they are bottled. :grinning:
