One of my favorites, I was curious when looking at the Founders availability calendar this is listed as year round as draft but only as jan - feb for 6 packs and sept/oct for specialties. Last fall I heard they were making it seasonal due to hops availability so now was curious when I see it on draft if it's fresh? Thanks
It's not because of the hops availability. It's because they found that bottles of it were consistently out of date and they're trying to make sure that now there will at least be 2 months where you should know that it's good. It's on tap all year because most bars aren't going to sit on the keg until its out of date (plus kegs are generally kept in better conditions than bottles).
Cool. Thanks for the info. I know Ive seen six packs still in the cooler at local shops from last fall and I've avoided them. Now lately I've seen some on tap and was unsure as to their freshness. Good to know.
But the good news is FBS will be the seasonal 6pack when all day is done. And truth be told id rather have FBS in 6packs then reds.
Ehh Red's Rye was probably the best year round beer Founders had next to their Porter. Founders Breakfast Stout is a great September to February beer. A little out of place right now though. Red's Rye no longer being year round to me makes their year round lineup 20 to 25% weaker.
Well the nice thing is anytime i want some all i have to do is drive 8 miles down rhe road and go get some fresh reds. So not having reds in bottles doesnt really bug me.
Red's Rye is one of my favorite beers from Founders, so it sucks that they aren't doing bottles year round. Obviously they have their reasons, but that doesn't help me out. I never see it on tap around here, so that doesn't make the situation any better.
Are you in Philly? It's on tap in three places downtown and one outside of Philly. Check out Philly Tap Finder to see what's on and where. If not in Philly , sorry. Enjoy
I have had reds rye 5-6 times and when fresh it is fantastic. Unfortunately even when it was still being distributed through may I had allot of trouble finding it fresh so I understand why this happened.
Unfortunately not. I'm in Lancaster. A new place just opened with 100 taps, so I'll have to check if they have it.
Definitely at least 20% since they only have 4 year round beers now in bottle haha. I'm tempted to say it's 25% weaker because Red's Rye was the best besides their Porter
This is incorrect. Red's Rye might be my favorite Founders beer, but more to the point, I really don't understand the infatuation with All Day IPA. It didn't taste like any IPA I've ever enjoyed--the flavor was far too watery/thin and really resembled an APA more than an IPA. I'm baffled by all the 4+ scores I see on the review page. And even more baffled when I see reviews of 4+ talking about the thin taste. But I love me some Red Rye. Or any number of Founders beers. Just not All Day. I'd gladly trade the availability of All Day to have bottles of Red Rye year-round.
Agreed about All Day but it's still highly drinkable. I think it's way less flavorful than Pride & Joy from Three Floyds and Gumballhead. It's just that All Day is more widely distributed so more people talk about it
