This is true, but if I'm wanting a rye beer like Red's, I'm not looking to pick up Union Jack, Racer 5 or Sculpin. Those beers don't have the rye characteristics that Red's does.

I made a similar point on a Red's Rye thread from a few months ago--I think part of the pricing is Founders recognizing that Red's sits in a unique place in the market. Low competition allows for higher pricing due to higher demand (relative to other options).

Now if some other brewers start releasing big, juicy, hoptastic and spicy rye beers like Red's and pricing them cheaper, maybe Founders will have to rethink its strategy. And heck, they might find that people's distaste for the per-unit price increase outweighs their desire for that type of beer, but I'm not one of those people.

    Two other things:

    1) Around here, Red's is definitely in the FBS bracket. I usually see it for $11. Of course, the Backwoods Bastard packs don't sit around long enough for me to know what they are priced at. But per Founders, aren't all three of those supposed to be on the same SKU?

    2) Sculpin doesn't distribute to Kansas or Missouri, but when I've seen it for sale online, it's been $15/sixer, which translates to $10/four-pack. Not a whole lot cheaper than the $11 price point for the Founders seasonals.

From 12.99 a six to 14.99 a four. FU Founders and your sob supporting story.

I'll take Otter Creek Kind Ryed every time.

This. I can pick up a sixer for $9. Freaking reds was priced $2-4 higher than fbs, backwoods, imp stout and harvest ale. Plus IMO ,it's not as good as any of them either (granted I know they are different kind of beers).

The new Red's that's been showing up is labeled as Rye IPA and on the same SKU as Breakfast Stout. The old Rye PA from last year was on the same SKU as IS, Backwoods Bastard, etc.

If Red's is priced that much higher than those other beers, then you need to ask you retail store what's up. I guarantee that Founders isn't pricing it that way.

I looked back at an old thread about Red's Rye pricing and according to some posters who seem to be in the know, it *should* be at the same price point as Double Trouble, Backwoods, Imperial Stout, Rubaeus and Curmudgeon.

I'd love to try some $9/sixer Kind Ryed, but alas, they only distribute to 18 states, none of which is Missouri or Kansas. It also looks to be new this past fall--it will be interesting to see if the price point remains that low if it gains widespread popularity. Red's used to be $10/sixer until very recently...
