On Founders current taproom tap list, there is a class 2 beer named "Solid Centennial". Does anyone have information on what this is? I assume it's some type of variant of Centennial IPA?

It is actually their Solid Gold Pale Ale with a ridiculous amount of Cetennial hops.... not a fan. I did enjoy the BA Main Guy.

I was up at the taproom a week ago and tried this once. Unfortunately, by the time I had it I was already pretty drunk and don't remember much about it. I do remember thinking that it was going to be better than it was, not too impressed.I even asked one of the bartenders what exactly was this beer and I think she said it was a hopped up centennial version of the pale ale. Sorry for the lack of detail on Solid Centennial. However, what I can tell you is the best beer currently on the menu, IMO, is the Mosaic Promise. Drank this numerous times over the course of a couple days and brought a growler back with me for the low cost of $9. Great IPA brewed with all mosaic hops. If you're going to the taproom drinks multiple pints of this, trust me.

I was there the day after their Harvest Party, and had this. At first, the server told us it was Solid Gold with a ridiculous amount of centennial hops (as mentioned above)... but then we were talking more, and he tried it and felt like it was different than he was describing it, so he got nervous and asked around to the other servers. After several of them tried it, they made a call, and one of their cellar guys came up and tried it. He said it tasted as it should, but then notified them that it was the beer they described, but it was also bourbon barrel aged... which made more sense because nobody thought it was really even remotely hoppy. Hope this helps.

I've had it a few times and almost wonder if this is something they're working on for a later release. I've asked a few servers and they've given me a range of answers from 50/50 Solid Gold/Centennial to Solid Gold with X amount of lbs. of centennial hops per barrel.

In my opinion, there is no way this isn't bourbon barrel aged to some extent. There is way too much oaky/vanilla taste in it. In fact, I would go as far as to say this has more barrel character than the BA Main Guy Mango did.

I was told it was barrel aged Centennial with 14 lbs of Centennial hops per barrel. Only had a taste but it definitely seemed barrel aged.

You wont regret it. It was recommended to me by one of the guys working back in the brewery (not sure exactly what he does) as "the best beer in the taproom that flies under the radar."

Had it at harvest fest. Note i was a touch buzzed at this point but i did not taste any barrel aged and thought it tasted like orange soda. Was not too impressed

Aren't BA beers always class 3 though?

Our server said that they screwed up and it was supposed to be Class 3 but it was too late to change it.

Here's what I found out tonight from one of the servers. The description card they got for the beer says that it's their Solid Gold with 14lbs of Centennial hops per barrel of beer. That description may trigger the "ZOMG, it's barrel aged!" reaction. But, when she said that the flavor profile was almost, buttery.....it wrinkled my brain. Then I tasted it. Here's my take, it's spoiled batch of Solid Gold and they're trying to "save" it as a taproom one-off. Now, I'm one of the first ones to defend Founders and what they do. But that's what it tasted like to me.

I don't think Founders would serve a spoiled beer…On top of the fact that Solid Gold has to be their most inexpensive beer they make.

I believe this may be close to the answer or it's something they're experimenting with and don't want to give away.

I haven't tried Solid Centennial yet (going to Founders tmw), but it is listed as 7.9% ABV while Solid Gold is only 4.6% ABV. That would make me think that it is not simply Centennial hopped Solid Gold. Whether it is BA or not, I don't know. If it's still on tmw, I will be trying it.

They also have Boilermaker on tap right now which is BA Solid Gold. It sits at 7.9%….which is what Solid Centennial is…Maybe it's actually heavily hopped Boilermaker.
