The only way it's illegal to sell a 4 pack of KBS is if it's sold by a distributor to the general public.

which is exactly what I am talking about. Pennsylvania beer distributors have been forced to compete with some pretty awesome grocery stores and people will do anything to get an edge. I find it hard to buy a case when I can go to whole foods / wegmans get a few 6 packs or singles for practically wholesale.

Two types of distributors in PA. Importing distributors who sell to retailers and retail distributors who sell to the general public but are allowed legally to sell only by the case and must sell that case as it is shipped by the brewery.

Single bottles, growlers, 4 packs and 6 packs can only be legally sold by other retialers who are not distributors and who are either a licensed bar or who have an eatry license allowing on premises consumption of food and beer. An eatery is allowed to sell upto 192 oz for take away.

Technically the beer sold at chains such as Wegmans or Whole Foods is not sold by the grocery store itself but by the restaurant that is operated as a separate business with its own cash register, etc.

Yeah I figured you knew most of it and was more addressing the post to the other fellow, but I also wasn't sure from your post if you understood its not the grocery store as such where you buy the beer.

Yep, I too know of a few retail distributors who skirt the law by selling single bottles from a "damaged" case, gift boxes, and half cases (e.g., Orval, Rochefort 10, etc.).

It's only available in Pennsylvania, so that's why you've never seen it.

My beer distributor sells many house made mix cases. Some are 4 six packs and sone are 12 different or even 24 different beers. I think most of these are ways to move old beer. They also sell large format bottles by the single and gift packs.

I was offered two six packs of hopslam the other year. It enough cases to go around so they split cases up. $22 a six I passed.

    Enjoy
