Ahhh, disappointment, they intend charging for it. :slight_frown:

There's a small, long time family owned brewery over in North West Central PA which has "The Eternal Tap," where both locals and the visitors there for the tour are able to come to the tap and have a couple of small glasses of beer for free with the only expectation being that the drinker wash and set the glass used back in the drying rack after use.

That price was still good, I'd be very happy if there was a place here with 3 beers for $7. This fountain is pretty cool , wonder if it'll catch on.

A fountain that spurts out beer = another name for a self serve beer tap. What's the big deal?

Our visit was fun so I'd definitely recommend it. Nice little town, brewery easy to find, chance to see the brewing equipment and process, lager from the tap, interesting small gift shop. There's a beer store connected where you can drive up to pick up a case or few and it's all freshly bottled. One of the two cases I bought was bottled the day before. Online form where you can reserve a day and spot in one of the tours before you get there. Tour guide may even be one of the family members.

Pretty sure the Manneken Pis pees beer a few times a year.

Seems like a great way to ruin a huge amount of perfectly good beer.

I remember the old gas station "ding ding" air line that alerted them to when you drove up. You told them how many cases you wanted and they loaded it into your car. This was in the early 2000's, and they only produced the lager....I would stop by when driving back to Michigan from Philly and pick up cases. The brewery tour concluded with them grabbing an uncapped bottle straight off of the bottling line, no label, about as fresh as you can get. Since they didn't pasteurize their beer it had a small distribution area and short shelf life, but made for a super tasty lager.

They've been stepping up their game in recent years and offering a wider range of lagers in seasonal variety packs. A look at their web site will let you see that a number of interesting things have happend since your experiences with them.

When I was in Slovenia, back when it was Yugoslavia, everyone bought me beers, fed me, etc. They are a great, generous, gregarious bunch. What a great, beautiful, and nearly unknown part of Europe!

Straub, like most every pre-craft era brewer in the US, pasteurizes their bottled beer. From their "Virtual Tour" page:
You can see photos of their pasteurizers dated 1983 and 1989 in their official history, Straub Brewery and a pic of their current pasteurizer here - Small Town Photographer.

To their credit, they did once have a very short suggested shelf life (2 months circa 1980, same as Coors' at the time) and now note a respectable 90 days.
