Didn't see a thread yet for this week, so here goes. Whose got holiday weekend brewing plans? I'll be brewing a Boulevard Tank 7 clone tomorrow. Hope to get an early start so I can focus on smoking ribs later in the day. Anyone else? Cheers!
thinking about brewing a APA. now that the plan has changed at the last minute, as always, WTF. I'll make a brew day if I cannot fish.
No brewing. But I am having friends over on the 5th for a beer tasting. Here's what I plan on opening. Amarillo/Galaxy Saison Simcoe/Citra/Centennial ipa Imperial stout with cocoa nibs/vanilla beans Double bastard clone BB Porter
Doing a patriotic APA in my new speidel called Wolverine Ale for Revolutions (WAR). All American malts + Victory Liberty & Warrior hops East Coast (Brewer Patriot) ale yeast (50 STATES) OG 1.050 target (13 COLONIES) FG 1.013 target 13# of grain base malt Ferment for 13 days
Kegging a Saison and then contemplating the next batch(s) over a diverse assortment over the holiday weekend. Suggestions/recommendations welcome
I'm not brewing but I think I will be next weekend because we are gonna drink up all of my supply probably.
Do both at the same time! I love firing up the kettles with the BGE next to it. Can't beat the smell of smoker going and the kettle going.
Picked up a couple bags of grain for two batches. Although prolly won't actually get done till sunday, got two batches to bottle two to brew, and one lager to transfer to carboy for lagering. Still kicking myself for not making an octoberfest since it likely won't be ready till october. The batches I have in mind to brew are Super-Galena / GP SMaSH - haven't tried SG yet, needta, might as well smash it. Prolly bitter to about 40 and give a pretty good blast late and at flameout, with dry hop also SG. These are high AA hops. Last time I tried this blind with high AA hops they were bravo and I loved it. Hopefully these deliver too. S-05 yeast. 2nd beer will be a sort-of a red-ish thingie Munich - 11 lbs C-40 - 1 lb Combination of citra and willamette hops, with a healthy late dose and dry hop. Figured to bitter something like 35 or 40 and use a 2:1 ratio of willamette to citra. Gonna try mangrove jack's workhorse yeast on this one Both seem pretty safe to come out at least tasty beer. Both using 12 lbs of grain which gives me about 1.060 OG. Next up after that is my first attempt at an imperial stout (which won't be all that imperial at about 8.2%) but should be pretty stouty, and should be ready by the time it gets less hot around here (like around mid February).
Maybe on Tuesday I'll fire up a DIPA. Still not sure of my grist or hopping schedule, but I'll likely do it on Tuesday as I want to keg some stuff that day and reuse the yeast.
I'll be brewing the same thing on Saturday. I actually have to make the second stage of the starter for it tomorrow.
I just smoked some ribs last weekend. I started them the night before with a dry rub in the fridge. I wrapped them in aluminum foil. I put them in the oven at 225 for 3 hours and them moved them over to the grill to continue the low-and-slow method. They came out amazing. If I had to brew in conjunction with this, I would have cut the oven heat and let the ribs just ride it out in the oven while I finished brewing. I would have gotten the grill going sometime in there at the end. Maybe an excuse to walk away from clean up.
Haven't fired up the brew kettle in a while because my schedule has been a little crazy. But finally getting to it tomorrow with a heavy hop bursted IPA.
Going to try for a tripel, and if I'm super ambitious might do two batches on Sunday. Maybe an IPA after the tripel -- or a Belgian IPA using the same yeast as the tripel (I'm harvesting a 1214 cake tomorrow so I'll have plenty).
Getting the starter on the stir plate tonight for a Nelson-hopped DIPA brew day on Sunday. I"ll dedicate the 4th to BBQing and relaxing with family.
I love seeing what you guys have plans for this weekend! Sounds good! Ribs and beer! Both are a slowgoing process. A few of you piped in on a thread I did a while back on adding LME to all grain. It was for a quad recipe. I changed some things about it and am brewing it this weekend. I told ya's I'd let ya know about it. I accidentally added more malt syrup to hold for Saturday brew day so the beer will be stronger. I am not putting it back into the 33lb container of syrup I bought. AlCaponeJr and Inchrisin gave me good tips on when to add the LME and I'll be adding it during the boil at various times. I'm boiling for 90 minutes. I'll give you guys the numbers when I'm done like I promised and the other guys too who chimed in with their knowledge. Thanks again for all of your help.
Mashing in a berliner weiss right now that I'll kettle sour and rack to the fermenter tomorrow if it gets acidic enough overnight.
