Wow. Does that look like a helluv'a fest! It's great to see so many unfamiliar breweries (albeit, some could be of the modern craft ilk) still running. It would be difficult to find a favorite.

When do you leave Spartan? Be fun to have direct reports from the site!

OTOH -- my wife and I are headed to one of our favorite brewpubs tomorrow -- one that leans to some good German styles -- beer and food.

Pyraser has at least one over-priced Crafty beer (Herzblut), so I would avoid them:stuck_out_tongue:. Looks great, lots of stuff I'd love to try, Rittmayer, Held Brau, Elsch Brau just for the name...the list can and does go on! Have fun!

Fischer, Hebendanz, Held, Rittmayer upon first glance. I'd likely give Nikl a shot...and "settle" on Mahr's if any of those are inconsistent.

    Krug-Bräu do a good Dunkel.

I had a couple a few years back and enjoyed them despite not really being a Dunkel fan.

Depends very much on what you are looking for and what will be aviable from the breweries there.
Brinkert have surprisingly good, yet atypical "craft" beer- Porter and Amber Ale.
Held Bräu is a must. Their Dunkles is one of my all time favorites.
Krug Bräu Dunkles Lager is very good as well, though very common in franconia. Was my go to beer when i bought beer at gas stations:wink:
Mager make also very nice beers, and yes a uniquely franconian, spicy Dunkles. Their Helles is pretty unique, but a bit inconsistent...
Schanzenbräu is becoming highly regarded among "Hipsters" and young people, though their beer is good. Honestly. Been a while since I had one though.

As you may have guessed, I personally have a real thing for Dunkles.

I have had stuff from Kuchlbauer, Altstadthof Nurnberg and Landwehr, among others listed. Solid, but unspectacular stuff. If you try Nikl let me know. I wanted to squeeze in a visit to them last year but couldn't..... Prosit!

The Gutmann helles hefeweizen is one of my absolute favorites.
