Disagree totally. Someone definitely told her to do that. I can't think of any waitstaff I've had serve me, even in brewpubs, that would have a clue how to mix beers to get something even remotely similar. And a server wouldn't take the time to do beer mixing. That would taqke a lot of pouring and tasting. She'd simply say, "Sorry we're out of that. What else would you like?" Unless you think she'd also take it on herself to do other menu substitutions and remixes.

It seems to me that this all could have been averted with some simple hospitality.

"Sorry sir, we're out of that beer right now"

"If you'd like something similar, we can blend two of our beers together to get you a close approximation to that beer. Or I can get you something else if you'd prefer. What kinds of beer do you like?"

Assumptions are the worst thing you can make in a restaurant or bar... as you can see.

Nothing quite as bad as that but whenever i go to bdubs i make sure to ask them to not have them stir my beer so it create the illusion that they know how to pour a beer and get some head on it. I dont know why it drives me crazy but they short pour then grab a spoon and whisk away for a few seconds to make the perfect pint. It sucks, they suck, bring me a coke instead!

Also bartenders who do not know how to pour a pint of Guinness. Drives me crazy!

Obviously "coming out a little brown right now" means we don't really have that beer but the boss told me if I mix these other beers in the right proportion it is the same thing.

Maybe tha is how they actually do make the stuff?

I dunno... the "Pumpkin & Spice" makes me wonder. Was the brown ale a fall/pumpkin beer?

We don't put up w/ schitte like this around here. You either get yer act together or you get thrown to the curb. It's called "work ethic" and you either get it or you don't. Get for realz, or get lost.

The first thing I wanted to try in Ireland (and I went to drink beer) was Beamish (never had it before). First pub we stopped in I order one and the bartender fills the glass half way with Beamish and goes back to watching the band. He comes back a couple of minutes later and tops it off with Guinness. When I mention it to him- he shrugs and goes back to watching the band. I drank it.

Went to Jolly Pumpkin in Ann Arbor about 6 months ago. When I asked which of their beers they had on tap, the waitress replied "Oh, we currently don't have any of our beers on tap." WTF? How the hell is a brewery of any kind not going to have any of it's own beer on tap?

I would have had the beer, then have them take it off the tab before I paid. If they make a stink on the bill, I stiff on the tip and I'm even. Easier to jut say it's out. Unless this a one of a kind beer joint, I'd most likely not go back unless the unintended beer wasn't comped.

Beer Works has two pumpkin ales, both of which I just recently drank and will be posting reviews of soon. She probably poured their regular pumpkin ale named Pumpkin Works and then topped it off with a stout. Pretty strange business practice instead of just telling you they're out of the Black O Lantern.

I wonder if that was when the brewery moved? It went from a 4000 square ft. place to a facility more than 10 times the size in Dexter. That is how a brewery can up with no beer on tap at the Cafe in AA - production was interrupted.

    That's not cool..

Then again I've seen Ginger ale made with sierra mist and a splash of coke at numerous establishments...

I can't say that I approve of this. If I order something they do not have I would rather be told "we don't have that." I am also wondering how you get a pumpkin beer from a brown ale and an irish stout. Did it taste like pumpkin? My guess is she may have seen someone else do something but she didn't know what she was doing.

I didn't mention it before, but I was sitting at the bar and my server was the bartender. That also explains how I was able to see the pour so well.

I considered this, but I didn't see another Pumpkin beer on the draft list, and I didn't taste any pumpkin or spice. I think BKBassist got it right and they were thinking (if they were thinking) that the cinnamon rim would take care of the "pumpkin" flavor.
