I stopped by a random store the other day and stumbled upon a Founders Frangelic Mountain Brown, a 2011 Matilda, and 2011 Juliet... along with a couple other beers from 3-4 years ago. I bought the Matilda ($8) but passed on the Frangelic because it was $20.

Now I'm wondering if I should have just bought them all... anyone have any idea what these would taste like? Was I an idiot for passing on them?

I don't think FMB would get better w/age and it was only $12-15 originally. Matilda/Juliet would probably be good to try with age.

yeah i think it was definetly smart to pass on frangelic just because of the price tag, way overpriced. it is rare though to see some sitting around.

Frangelic Mountain wasn't great fresh and I don't see it improving with age. Matilda and Juliet are solid, but dont' see getting more than 1-2 years out of them in the cellar IMO.

I may crack up that Matilda next weekend just to see what it's like

In my opinions, all of the Goose Island "sister" beers improve/change over time. Juliet mellows, Matilda almost gets funky, Lolita funks up a bit, and Sofie gets tart.

Local grocery store had 2011 Sofie bombers marked down to $4.99 and I only bought one. Mistake. It had progressed into a semi-tart, semi-dry, champagne-like beer that was amazing.

FMB I didn't like fresh, so I traded my other bottle and have no cellaring experience.

Thanks for the info, I ended up picking up the other beers just to see what they are like. I don't have huge expectations for the FMB

I've always wanted to try FMB so I asked him in a private conversation, but he's not interested in sharing that info.

FMB was pretty artificial and thin when fresh. Can't imagine it's any better now.
