Granted my experience is limited. I came across this treat at a bottle shop in Portland last year when I was visiting. I was super pumped to give it a whirl because of all the great reviews. Just tasted like I was licking a bottle cap. Very metallic tasting. Very disappointed. Thought maybe I hyped it up too much in my mind. This year it showed up in my home market. Decided to give it another shot since it was only $10. Much better experience.

Agree. I thought it had just “gone bad” but upon checking dates it wasn’t. Your right. This years is 100% better. No acidic taste.

I'd maintain that other than BA beers, aging only changes a beer by some flavor(s) fading, enhancing some other flavor(s). In the case of BA beers, and who wouldn't want a case of BA beers, it's possible that the bourbon or rum could itself improve and evolve, and overpower the other flavors in the beer. If it's not a BA beer, and aging improves it, then there is/are some flavor(s) that you didn't like which faded, enhancing some flavor(s) you did like.

So, does anyone think that a 2-year-old FBS will still be enjoyable? I'd really like to try it, but I don't want to taste it merely as a shadow of itself, given the context of this thread...

I don't! Drink it as fresh as possible and it's even better on tap.

The thing is that I don't really have a choice where I live... It's either those bottles or nothing...

How much are they asking for them?

I think they were around 3€, might as well take my chances for that, I guess. On the other hand it does seem a little cheeky to charge full price for 2-year-old bottles when they really should be in the out-of-date section for 1€ or something...

This beer just gets better and better, this year's is fantastic. I paid $10.99 for a 4 pack which is about typical, you cannot beat it, just a great product.

I would drink it, at most your coffee side will have faded but it should be pretty tasty.

    Just grab a single bottle.

Old coffee beers tend to have green (bell) pepper flavor.

I never picked up that on older coffee beers. I have saved a few of these maybe 1.5 years old and they tasted ok, the coffee was not very upfront but as a whole the beer was still very good. I have read that on the green pepper but I never have tasted that yet.

Wrong, that's an opinion. The FACT is that you can age ANY beer, the results (how it tastes after aging) are opinions.

You got it all backwards. It's an opinion that you can age ANY beer. And it's a very wrong opinion. That's a fact!

I don't think you understand what a fact or opinion is. Why can't I age any beer?

I can put whatever beer I want in my cellar for aging, the result might be less than desirable and I'm not arguing that. For example, I doubt a 6 year old Bud Light is going to taste good but doesn't mean that I can age it and form my own opinion.

Physically you can put a bottle of Bud Light into your cellar, but it won't age. It'll just EXPIRE and will taste awful. That's a fact!

What's a fact? The beer will expire? If that's the term you want to use (I'm not aware of beers with expiration dates on them) then every beer will expire at some point via AGING. Taste awful? We've been through this, that's an opinion.

I'm done responding to you, clearly you are either arguing for the hell or it or are just plain dumb.

True the debate is do you enjoy the beer more fresh than aged. In the case of Imperial Stouts I say fresh is more enjoyable.
