Taproom beer has a couple fresh hops on. I liked what they did last year so I may have to pay a visit. If I don’t get distracted first seeing what NP and Pure are doing I’ll report back. Waiting for Stone to drop wet hop ruination again….
Just saw on their Instagram but... Lagunitas Born Yesterday 2025 will be "borned" 10/1 but released 10/4. I really lament the fact that they stopped releasing it the day after (thus rendering the name of the beer meaningless.) In pre-COVID days, I've tried it the first day of release and it blew me away. I've gone back the 2nd and 3rd days and while good, the flavors just aren't as punchy. I'll be buying the 2025 version anyway (only Lagunitas I buy), but it used to be something really special for the company.
Agreed. The two years I had it the day after it was "borned", it was the best wet hop beer I've had. Actually... I think they even bottled it in the morning, and it made it to the shelves down in San Jose by that evening. Incredible.
Yeah I remember drinking it on tap at ISO:Beers the evening of the day it was kegged. Born tomorrow in 2015-17 era was peak. Had a friend from Minnesota visiting that day and his reaction was something to the effect of holy shit I've never had a beer like this, and that was back when Wet and Axeman were having their moment out that way. Still a great beer days later, but the freshest of OG Born Yesterday was some of the best beer I've had anytime, anywhere.
Was around oakland this week and not a fresh hop beer in sight. Seems like SoCal trends ahead on fresh hops every year based on my observations.
Ghost Town released Resin Fingers (fresh hop simcoe) last week, and since they are the best brewery in Oakland, dunno where you were looking. Also looks like Cellarmaker had started dropping their fresh hops last week as well, Green Knuckle.
Getting a case of this shipped for free, arriving the day after it's canned is as close to those born yesterday memories as it gets.
I had Green Knuckle, that was pretty good. Was not aware it was fresh hops as it wasn't called out on the board.
This year, they are releasing a series of Fresh Hop beers all called Green Knuckle. There was Green Knuckle Simcoe DIPA released two weeks ago with Simcoe fresh hop, but also Simcoe T90 and Simcoe Cryo so it to me tasted more like a regular dry hopped beer. They wanted to get it out to the market ASAP since they had the freshly harvested hop. But Green Knuckle Citra Pale Ale debuted yesterday, and I believe it's 100% wet hop Citra. They'll be releasing Green Knuckle Krush and Green Knuckle Mosaic in the upcoming weeks.
I couldn’t handle a case. Even Citra, I would never get a case. Too much for me. But good move. A can a day for 24 days of wet hops. It’ll probably drop off around day 5 or 7.
Word is no Wet Hop Stratocaster from RiiP this year. Maybe a couple of more wet hops from the guys down the street, GC the next 2 weeks.
Monkish just posted their wet hop DDH DIPA Armored Dilla (collab with De Garde) is available in cans today. It doesn’t specify in the post but I imagine it’s a hazy. Anyone had any Monkish fresh hops? Will this be worth a try? I’m guessing it’ll be at least $24 a 4 pack.
I usually am able to get friends to take 2-3 packs, although having too much fresh Kern would be a problem I could live with.
Looks like $23! https://monkishbrewing.myshopify.co...rmored-dilla-2025-fresh-hop-ddh-dipa-4pk-16oz But yeah, I always assume that anything from them that's not specifically labeled west coast is a hazy by default.
So since it’s my birthday, I decided to leave work a few minutes early and head on over to splurge on a 4 pack of this. I have it in hand. I’ll have one tonight.
Drinking it now. Super fresh. Drinks pretty light for a DIPA. Starts with a nice grapefruit presence. Tasting some tropical fruit after the citrusy front end. It has that green plant like characteristic on the back end. I’m enjoying this very much.
