The Gigantic collab with Georgetown was a solid entry, the rest from Gigantic were fine and the Little Beast FHs were honestly hard to pick out as FH. So far my leader in FH beers this year is still PP Wet Lambo. I didn't get a chance to get up to Green Cheek though.
I would be curious to know how fresh those Gigantic and Little Beast cans were. Today I had a glass of draft Breakside fh ipa, and while good, my impression was that the fh character was definitely starting to fade. The keg was probably a good two or three weeks old at least, and that's definitely pushing it for a fresh hop beer (in my experience). Fresh Breakside freshies were really loaded with fh character when first released this year, but that doesn't tend to last all that long. So maybe that's part of the problem with the cans you had? I haven't tried any Gigantic stuff this season, but the Little Beast ipa I tried a week or so back was very good, with considerable fh character. Just a thought.
I scored some more FH beers at Holiday Wine in Escondido yesterday including 2 from Oregon which I've never had anything from these locations prior. Crux Fermentation Project- very good, old school dank resin/pine very aromatic. Little Beast Brewing - Simarillo- very different, earthy/musky, very full bodied and finally- Kern River - Wet Exit- finally found it, bought 2 4pks. Great beer maybe as good as the Green Cheek Bag of Yes one. I will have them side by side Friday and see which is king of this years FH for my tastes.
I heard Lagunitas Born Yesterday was dumped as it was contaminated this year. Does anyone know if this is true?
a random stop in to my local Mr kegs and surprised to see this FH from Seattle in the cooler along side FH Cowchie. I thought the fresh hops stood out on draft at Fremont last week. I was going to grab a 4pk to bring home but the daughter loves hazy’s so I ended up bringing the FH hazy Cowchie which is a good for a hazy fresh hops. Bonus on the FH Lust in town. Wasn’t expecting that.
Green Cheek's fh mosaic out today. If it's anything like the Krush fh from last week it should be stellar with plenty of fh character
It’s my favorite of cheeks three this season. Not as punchy as Krush. The mosaic characteristic shine on this one. If you’re looking for a fresh hop mosaic with a more in your face, Sticky Fresh. Had it on tap 4 hrs ago.
Digging this mosaic fh from green cheek. Not as much green-ness as the krush release last week but getting a real nice catty-ness that I don't often get from mosaic. Love that we saw three fh beers from green cheek this year, that's two more than they've ever done before. Let's keep it up!
Looks like cans sold out pretty quick yesterday. CM location may still have some left according to Untappd. 3 for 3 good fresh hop IPA’s from Green Cheek this year. Two steps in the right direction. The only other LA brewery to put out 3 would be HpB. Good finish to fresh hops in a fresh state.
Good call on the metrolink. Good luck on getting cans. On draft was good. We did like it a little more than GC. I’ll have to compare the cans together. Would have spent more time at HpB but need to meet up with friends at GC. Long day. Have fun. Don’t forget FH timbo. Cheers.
definitely more aroma when first opened can, and definitely more deeper taste than GC’s ITN. Both great from 2 great breweries in OC & LA. Only difference is in $.
I just had this one tonight. Loved it. I preferred it over ASAP even though I thought ASAP was really nice. I didn’t get a chance to try A Bag Full of Yes so I can’t compare.
a surprise find. Station Craft Poseidon’s Pick, wet hop wcipa. I thought it was pretty damn good for a brewery I’ve heard of, but never had. Dana Point.
Found one can of FH Lush at a local store, definitely had strong FH character but I didn’t love it overall.
So far I've tried wet hops this year from about a half dozen different breweries (Green Cheek, Fremont, Radiant, Everywhere, Burgeon, Kern River, there might be a couple more). They've all been good to excellent but my favorite of the bunch is The Speed of Now from Radiant.
