I'm aware that hoppy beers fade but from what i've been told, NN fades quicker than most.
I'm not really concerned with MBC's beers fading but something i can only get once a year (NN)...yes, i'm concerned with the pace of degradation.

    $7.99 per. 5L? Next....

Where was I...oh yeah, enjoying a nice fresh FW Union Jack (a world class, award winning IPA) for a third of the price.

Nice, I picked up a bottle of fresh Double Jack at Julios too, they had a bunch left!

I'll admit $7.99 is a little expensive, but its ironic you said that because your profile quote says to support local craft beer. Maine Beer is small upstart beer company that has only been around for a few years, and you are comparing it to a brewery (outside of New England) that has been around for almost fifteen years, and has a much larger distribution and production range. I don't mind paying the prices because they are local, and the beer is damn good too. They support the planet too. Union Jack is good though

I can't blame them for charging $8 a pint since the bottles seem to fly off the shelf, but nonetheless, the price is jaw-dropping. That's $10.35/22oz or $12/750mL (or a rollicking $34/6pk). Local, new, or otherwise, Lunch seems to set a new bar for what you can charge for something that hasn't seen bugs or a barrel.

Blatant, Jack's Abby, CBC, Mayflower, Pretty Things, Idle Hands, Slumbrew, etc have all entered the market recently with substantially lower prices, so it can be done. MBC has chosen not to, either because a) the beer sells out at $8, b) their equipment necessitates enormous prices, or both. Like I said, I don't blame them, but it's not like there's nothing they could do.

I did a taste test with my girlfriend and blind tasted her, and she could easily tell the difference from the 2/21 batch and 3/22 batch. They both tasted great, but the 2/21 batch had clearly fallen off a bit.

FWIW its not like they just charge that for Lunch, all of their beers cost the same +/- a dollar. They also dont brew full time, they both work full time and do this on the side out of passion. If you have to charge $8 a bottle to keep a business afloat and people are paying it, wheres the problem?

Really? Popularity and rarity make a beer better? Really?

I would guess he was saying that he can also trade/give it to others, allowing him to reap benefits/satisfaction.

Actually, the owners haven't been brewing the beer at MBC for about a year now. They used to be lawyers but have been running the brewery full-time for a while. They have one full-time brewer who brews on their 15bbl system once or twice a week. They just hired two new brewers to help their business expand. Hopefully the price point will come down once they move to a move into their own building in Freeport and ramp up production. Cheers

Thanks for posting this, they still had 4 or 5 after I got mine today, limit of 2. The price is a little high but I've been waiting to try it for so long I dont really mind, not to mention wines n more is a little on the expensive side anyways.

I was in Portland on Saturday and got some for $5.99/bottle. You are comparing MA prices for MA brewed beers with MA prices for ME brewed beers, which is not totally fair, but yes their stuff is expensive even when adjusting for that. It is cheaper than Idle Hands, though, IMHO -- I paid $10.95 for a 25.4 oz bottle of Pandora recently, that is a lot more expensive than $5.99 for 16.9 of Lunch.

I didn't consider the cross-border premium--this is true. And though I haven't purchased Pandora, I was assuming the $9/750mL figure that Greenlee had in his post was accurate. $6 is much nicer than $8 (25% nicer, in fact). I'd go on and on about my expectations about pricing and such, but I don't want to go too OT.

I think I paid $7/bottle for Lunch at Central Bottle iin Cambridge on Saturday. Not quite $6, but it also ain't $7.99.

Had a bottle of it last Friday from Table & Vine and paid $6.99. To me, it was good, but nothing special. A decent IPA.
