Freshly Dumped 5 Gallon Whiskey Barrels

    Have you used a barrel to make a stout, porter or IPA yet? I made a DIPA with this barrel from a Texas distillery in Waco. The barrels are high in vanillin for the first few runs, but then mellow out for more of a wood taste. I'm going to play around with some Brett next...

    I'm assuming the barrel was from Balcones? I've got a Belgain strong dark ale in the blue corn whiskey barrel and I've got a barrel from Ranger Creek that I have an English Barleywine in currently. It was storing an RIS and next it will probably become a sour vessel.

    Are these barrels worth the price? And what time frame do ya'll age your beers in the barrels for? I know it depends on many factors, but just throw some examples at me.
