I don’t see much action here, but it’s worth a shot. I’ve got a friend visiting London next week, staying near King’s Cross. I’d love to find him two great beer experiences: one traditional and one modern. Can anyone lend any recommendations?

I am certain (hopeful) other, more qualified (and more local) BA's will chime in. But I'd start the discussion with the following recommendations:

Modern - Euston Tap - Right in front of Euston Station, which is quite close to King's Cross. A converted part of the old Euston Station, kind of a guardhouse looking building. Rather interesting. Has a fairly nice rotating tap list of modern craft beer.

Traditional - Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese - Metro ride away, but not terribly far. Historical pub with a ton of hidden nooks and crannies and lower underground levels. Beer is tied to Samuel Smith, if I remember correctly. Not exactly a wealth of beer choices, but an interesting place.

The Queen's Head, 66 Acton Street, a short walk from Kings Cross Station. Both modern and traditional ales.
