    Hi Folks,
Have a friend who is in Chicago for a day or two, totally not into beer and was going to ask and have her bring me a treat. What do you suggest that could be picked up easily at a local bottle shop that is worth asking for in Chicago?

Im in NorCal, for distro purposes.

    Cheers

    Adam

Depending on the timing and your willingness to do some legwork (call a few bottle shops to save her some time), Zombie Dust would be my first choice.

You will probably get more responses posting this question in the Great Lakes Forum as Illinois is listed there.

I would try 3 Floyds, Half Acre, Pipeworks and Revolution. You're bound to get plenty of other suggestions, too...none of which are "wrong".

Pipeworks and Revolution for sure. You really cant go wrong with any of their beers. I wouldnt suggest having her search too hard for Zombie Dust - when its here (legally) it flies off the shelves. If its here illegally its about $4 a bottle and rather dated (normal 6 pack is $10 at the brewery)

Have her go to Binny's, Fischman's, or Beer Temple and ask for suggestions. Always great options just sitting on the shelf.

You might also narrow down what part of Chicago she'll be visiting (it's a fairly large and spread out city). Specifying Downtown, North, South of West sides would help people suggest places she's more likely to be able to get too.

If nearby, Beer Temple for THE best service and smiles! Pipeworks Ninja Vs. Unicorn cans would fare very well in the luggage!!!

Agreed. I think in a circumstance like this it's a solid idea to go to a quality store like the above and ask for suggestions. Just have her mention to them some styles you prefer & it's highly likely you'll get something you'll enjoy. Beer Temple is a great store. Also agree with a 4pk of NvU cans. Should be easy to find & easy for her to pack in her luggage as well.

I would also recommend anything Pipeworks. War Bird was just release in cans and I think it's a great summer saison. Not on par with their DIPAs...but good. Of course NvU is a must but I'm not sure you'll find any of that as it was last shipped Monday, 8/17. I'm not sure if there are shipping more next Monday or first week of Sept. Blood the Unicorn in cans is worth a try too. There were a few smaller shops around me that still had Blood from couple weeks ago. Black Tuna was also amazing but not gonna find that in the bigger shops anymore either.

Also can't go wrong with most APA/IPAs from Rev Brewing. I think Fist City in cans is damn good and available everywhere.
