First time hearing about this. Anyone know anything more about it? Would be cool to have another good brewery close by

The Los Angeles River continues to buzz with activity, as newcomer Frogtown Brewery opens this Saturday just off the waterway. The new craft beer taproom has been planned since last year, and should be ready to go by the weekend.

A walk through the space reveals the sort of steampunk chic that many current craft beer operators are working with, from the exposed rafters inside the warehouse space in Gilroy Street to the wraparound bar and heavy wooden accents. There’s plenty of communal seating around a few large tabletops, plus room at the bar for anyone bellying up for a drink.

As for the beer, expect a localized collection from owners Mike Voss and master brewer Adam Kestel. Both are longtime homebrewers who have been running a homebrew shop at the front of the warehouse for several months, before turning on their seven-barrel system in the back.

Now that Frogtown Brewery is ready to roll, look for a menu of straightforward favorites, including an IPA, witbier, and saison. Beers will rotate on and off as they become available, but growler fills for take-home drinking should be part of the equation from day one. Canning and bottling are options down the line, and Frogtown also hopes to locally distribute their kegs to about a dozen other beer bars around town.

Frogtown Brewery opens this Saturday at noon, keeping weekend-only hours for now. That means 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday night, noon to 10 p.m. on Saturday, and noon until 7 p.m. on Sunday. As for food, you’ll have to bring it yourself for now, though Salazar is just a short walk away.

Interesting... they're located pretty close to ERB. Glendale is becoming quite the fast expanding city

I'm not familiar with the location. But I love the bars on the window. It would look better covered with graffiti.

This is a good thing. But we will still have very few great brewery's. Some good brewery's. And a whole lot of average brewery's. And the others not so good brewery's. And don't forget the local brewery's that all the locals flock to because it's the hip thing to do. We are already seeing a lot of old bottles sitting on the shelves do nothing. But more is good. :grinning:

Anyone actually make it over last weekend? And can anyone confirm the hours that were mentioned in that article? First brewery that's within walking distance of my house...I'll probably try to check it out sometime this weekend.

It's great to have a new option in the area—I'm close by in Los Feliz. The Untappd checkins I've been seeing have suggested that they're still working out kinks, but I'm excited to stop by and try everything out.
