It hasn't been too long since I've been down there, but it seems that a bunch of places have sprung up. Can someone point out the 4-5 must sees? I'll be staying in Boca, so Funky Buddha and Due South are on my list as well as JW. Thanks!
Make sure you also check out the FB lounge. Sybarite Pig (Boca), Saltwater Brewery (Delray), Barrel of Monks (Boca). In Miami check out Kush and Boxelder, both in Wynwood right by JWB. Perhaps swing by The Brass Tap (Pembroke or Ft Lauderdale) and try whatever 3 Sons they have on draft
If your'e hitting Wakefield, I'd also recommend Wynnwood Brewing. It's only a couple of blocks away and they make some really solid beers (e.g., Pop's Porter). Cheers!
Cool, thanks @cacostaj and @MHorridge. That's a lot of breweries to check out. Now if you could recommend some organic groceries or groovy bakeries near the breweries, then I can convince my wife to come along.
Sadly, we don't have any groovy bakeries. Florida's voters didn't approve that referendum last year. ... Oh wait. ... Not that kind of "groovy bakery"? My bad. Seriously: MIA isn't my stomping grounds but Google Maps is showing Zak the Baker pretty much right around the corner from Wynnwood Brewing. I understand your dilemma. I'm sure Miami BAs can step in to help you with that part of your challenge!
Zak the Baker is a cool spot. I enjoy the food a lot. Wynwood is pretty "groovy" in general. Id check out Wakefield if you only have time for one brewery in wynwood, but that is just my opinion.
You can check out rhino donuts in Fort Lauderdale or in boca. They make crazy good donuts. Also there's gramma's bakery in Delray and that's right by The Boys farmers market.
I would hit up Copperpoint, they are less than 1000 feet from Due South and making better beer imo. Can't help with the bakeries but have a great time!
I cosign Zak the Baker. Food/bread/baked goods are amazing. They're open from 7-5 and closed on saturdays. No organic grocery stores in the area, but check out JugoFresh at Wynwood Walls and Guarapo Organic Juice Bar (on 36th st). They both offer great smoothies/raw juices/bowls, with the latter also offering sandwiches/wraps/soups. If you're into coffee check out Panther Coffee literally right down the street from JWB. Other food options I'd recommend are Coyo Taco right next to Panther, Gastropod on 26th st serves up some amazing grub out of a hip shipping container and Kush. If you want to have a fancier experience, Alter is right down the street from JWB as well (fyi these places are all within a 2 mile radius, some if not most within walking distance of one another in Wynwood). Lots of cool street art to check out as well if that's your thing too
Zak the Baker looks amazing. Do I really have to order ahead for every little pastry I might pick up?
I never have, but to be fair I always go in the morning for breakfast or noon at the latest. The place has become increasingly popular and you know how that goes. If you happen to come down here on a Friday, I do encourage you get a loaf of their Challah even if only to munch on it on your way back up to Boca or for Challah French Toast the next morning
When you're up by Due South check out Copperpoint. It's right next door, worth the stop. Bangin Banjo also opened up in pompano. In Boca there is a Tap 42 with decent food and taps also. Everyone else covered the rest, enjoy the trip.
